Has anyone done any Hog hunting in the New England Area? I have noticed there is a preserve in Vermont and Maine. Pls advise me of the guide service you used and any problems. Thanks

JD,
I went to Cold Brook Hunts in New York state a while back. Very friendly people. Tough to find contact information though. I think that they were out near Utica or Syracuse. Homer, New York I think was the town.
I took a Russian Boar that tasted great and looks great on my wall.
What sort of hunt are you looking for? A search in Google or Lycos might help. Also, Field and Stream etc usually have guide services in the back. www.fieldandstream.com
Good luck

Eskimo kid Thanks for the reply I will check out the area you gave. I have found one in Maine and Vermont The cost of the Maine one is $400 for a Small boar and the cost in Vermont is $600 for a trophy russian boar.

JD,
Coldbrook was only a $50 deposit, $450 balance on russian boar taken plus $40 to quarter and a tip to the guide. That included accomodations in a cabin for two days. If you didn't take a hog, you lost $50 but that $50 would be used as a deposit if you went back within a year if I recall correctly.
Most others in the area of NY were priced very similarly. Only problem is that I don't think you could bring a pistol to hunt them with unless you went through some red tape with the State Police or shipped it etc etc.
Most everyone I went with used 30-06, loaded with 180gr Winchester Fail Safe. One guy had a Savage 99 lever action rifle. I don't know what caliber. Someone probably had a .308. I'd recommend against a muzzle loader because all the hogs required a follow up shot.

Jim. Thanks for the info I will be using a .35 cal rem with 200 grain. that will do the job. The place in Vermont is only about 3.5 hours away and vermont has very good gun laws no permit for handguns.
