see thru mounts or not

Just got my new Marlin 336bl. Picked up a red field revolution 2x7 scope. Now I'm trying to figure out how to mount it. See thru mounts or something else. Never used them before but they seem like a good idea. This rifle will be primarily a deer rifle. I hunt the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Thick thick stuff where a close shot is a good possibility. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

No, NO, and NOOO!
See-Through mounts are possibly the worst idea ever fostered on the gullible shooting public!
A See-Through mount puts the scope way too high above the bore for any cheek support on the stock. Your head wobbling around trying to see through it will destroy any accuracy and slow you down.
A quality scope will be sighted in and left on the rifle from then on.
You will never ever need the iron sights again, unless the scope gets run over by a pack mule.
In that case, take it off, toss it in the weeds, and use the iron sights until you get home and buy another scope.
Mount the scope as low and close to the bore as you possibly can using low or medium rings and you will be good to go.

Gotta agree with RC on this one.I had see throughs on a remington 7400. The iron sights were useless through thos mounts.

A quality 1.5-4 or 5x scope will do everything that Marlin is capable of and more, if you feel the strong need for back up irons get a quality QD scope mount so it can be removed in needed.

Closer the scope to the barrel the better.

No no no and no
See thru rings ensure that the shooter can use NEITHER sighting system effectively. A real lose lose proposition.
Do these pics look like a gun that's set up for speed accuracy ruggedness and ease of use? (My gun my face about 10 minutes before removal of the rings)

Dump the "see thru" mounts idea and go for a fixed powered scope like a 4X or so.
Look at the Nikon ProStaff models available in most shops along with the bases and rings or your rifle.
I hunt similiar "woods" herein PA and the fixed powered, low magnification stuff has served me well over the years.
See thru bases are a GIMMICK!

Nah.. You're down to 2 power on the scope already and the real benefit to "see through" (for me) is quick iron sight acquisition in relation to not dickin' with higher magnification issues for a close opportunity shot.

There us no "quick sight acquisition" with see thru rings.

^^^ Sure there is if the option presents as an adjustment of both focus and magnification for a close shot. I've used them a lot including "see throughs" on my M-21 in the Army.
I've had no problem with quick pick ups on any of my applications but I would rather have quick release for the OP's application assuming the only reason I'd go to irons given the rifle/scope combo is a defective scope.

Have you actually tried to use the see thru feature of see thru rings on a Marlin or other hunting rifle?
Look at my pic above! Notice the ocular ring against my forehead

Nope, I was responding to this particular statement... ""There us no "quick sight acquisition" with see thru rings."" Maybe I misunderstood given the spelling/grammar issues in the sentence.
I fully recognize that it is often not a realistic option given application specifics.
My point with the "Nah" in my first response is in response to "See thru mounts or not" in the OP, so indirectly, we agree in this application.

I had tried the same see thru mounts on my Marlin 1895. As noted others the scope is way up there and the sighting is unnatural.
Then I discovered the Weaver tip over mount. This puts my 1-4 X 20 lower to the rifle than any other mount on this or any other rifle! And the scope just tips over if I want to use the regular sights.
The Weaver tip overs are not made anymore but you can find them on ebay or for sale elsewhere for a reasonable sum, I think I paid $20 for mine.

I've taken the advice given and just bought a game reaper mount. Should work out awsome. When I'm out in the woods I'll just leave the scope at the lowest setting. I did some research on the game reaper mounts and couldn't find anything negative about them other than the cost ($50) they look really solid.

I agree with this. Zero the irons that are on it just in case. I can't imagine any real world situation needing super fast access to the irons that warrants the see through rings.

I bought a rifle (700 .243 Win) yesterday with Holden "Ironsighter" mounts. I was thinking the additional height might make it easier for my wife to shoot. I think they will be replaced with regular mounts and a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9 now.

Poor cheek weld with a see-through. Just remember that and if you go that route, your iron sights should be your primary sights.

Hey, guy's I'll take any and all see-thru mounts for free.
Scrap aluminum is about fifty cents a pound now at the recyclers.

No, not ever.
Use a quality low magnification/variable optic and quality QD mounts instead.

I bought a used rifle with a set of see-through mounts on it. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Once I tried them out, I couldn't get them off fast enough. Just did not fit me at all. They're still laying around here somewhere.
Another idea that sounds good when first heard, but doesn't work out so well for many people. There are probably some who can do well with them, but I wasn't one of them.
