Can't decide...

Don't you just hate it when two different firearms are calling your name from the gunstore, but you can only purchase one? I can never decide. Right now there's a PS90 and a Springfield TRP that I'm looking at buying but just seem to make up my own mind.

The buy behind the counter is also trying to seem me a MP5 clone in .22lr for cheap, but that's less tempting.

Anybody have any thoughts on how to make this life-changing decision on what to buy first? :-)

Why not think about it for another few weeks? But if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, then do what you must.

I've got the opposite problem. I have a very specific idea of what I want, and no manufacturers make a pistol with the specific options I want.

I'm the pro at decisions like this!

Alright, go into the store when you're having a good day, right?

Have them lay the two top contenders out in front of you, grab each of them and check your "fuzzy-o-meter" ... whichever one raises it more, that's the one. I've brought home some real gems doing that.

Is there any special niche you'd prefer to fill with one of the guns first? If both would be just for fun, then listen to the following advise (already given):

Well, I'll throw in my zero cents. I went, for months, pining away for a PS90 (and ultimately a matching fiveseven). It is the coolest looking gun, seemingly perfect for the range and HD, and as a left-hander, a great design for someone with my 'deformity'. Oh and did I mention that it was really cool looking too?
Anyway, the negatives that got me (most of which are relevant to most people) are:
The cost of ammo is ridiculously high. I don't know of people who are successfully reloading the ammo for it, but for it's size and complexity, it just seems wrong. And that FAL has a near-monopoly on it's manufacture (I guess others don't see the volume opportunity) doesn't favor the price coming down much any time soon;
There's too much FUD about the capability of the civilian version of the round. Some say it's a brilliant and incredibly powerful round, others say it won't make it much through a pair of jeans. I'm not one to care much about having the most powerful gun in town, but I guess I remain confused.
The gun(s) are pretty pricey. If not for the other concerns, I wouldn't mind as much but it's another strike against it.
Finally, one of the value of the gun(s) is that you can carry 50 rounds (or 30 in the handgun). Except in CA where I live. Confined to 10 rounds, it didn't seem like a good tradeoff.
Anyway, best of luck with the decision. I'm simply citing the criteria that I used. I ended up unifying my short carbine round (another criteria I had) with my handgun by going with an ATI-AT94 and my 9MM's that I already owned.

Flip a coin.
When the coin has been thrown into the air, You will know right away what gun you end up wanting more. Happened before...

PS90, Springfield TRP, or MP5 cloneOf the three, I'd suggest the Springfield.

You might get lucky and buy something that works, (Not the MP5 clone) or have enough money left to buy some ammo for it. (Not the PS90)

I wasn't suggesting he consider the MP5 'clone' (as you say). I'm not one who, when an OP asks, 'Which of two' I suggest a third.
Re the AT94 being an MP5 clone, you're right, and not right. It is more accurately, a relabeled MP5. Unlike the clones that we read about that are overpriced, built out of odd parts by odd men of ill repute, the AT94 is built in Turkey, on H&K MP5 manufacturing machines, besides the H&K-licensed MP5's being built, and labeled as H&K MP5's by the same people doing the latter. I would say that the finish quality is a bit less, though I haven't ever handled an MP5 coming from that factory. And of course it is 'modified' through the addition of welded inserts, to pass U.S. regulations, to ensure it can not run full auto.
And yes, I AM being quite defensive thank you very much! :)

This, but this is only part of it. After the coin toss, and this is the important part... see how you feel about the result. Most likely you will either be happy or regretful. THAT tells you what you wished the coin had said.

What I do is purchase the more expensive of the two because it will be easier to save for the cheaper one next. Of the ones you have mentioned, I would not have to think much about this, the TRP is the right decision. Good luck buddy and keep us posted..

One good thing about being old is that with age comes wisdom. Many's the time I've saved up for the gun -- and by the time I had the money, there was something else that looked better.

It's kinda like going to your 50th High School Reunion and seeing that hot chick, the one that wouldn't give you the time of day when you were in school. Man, old age hit her like a freakin' truck!:D

I have an MP5 clone in .22 and I will tell you, there is not a person who shoots it who doesn't turn around smiling after dumping a magazine.

Ever try to bundle gun purchases? You'd be surprised how much a dealer will drop the price of 2 or 3 guns if they can make the sale, this is especially true with the used market as there is a lot more room there.

Look, handle, leave. Come back in a couple days and repeat. Same choice as before? Then you have made your decision. If not, do the same with the other. If it happens again, don't tell the wifey you bought 2 guns.....

TRP. I've owned several and always regret selling them. Even though I have replaced them with custom 1911s.

Cheers,
