Well,
Everything I've heard about Savages rifles is true. This is an outstandingly accurate weapon for a reasonable price. Unfortunately the wind kicked up too much for some real long distance shooting, but I can't wait until next weekend to try it out.
Check out this 1st group at 100yd sight-in! I'm a happy camper.

Good job! Now quit messing with it while you are ahead :D
Anything you do to is bound to result in larger groups. Time to put that rifle on the shelf, and buy another one to master!

Actually, if it's anything like my 10fp it WILL shoot smaller groups than that. Mine shoots groups like that, (even 5 rounders), with Black Hills 168's. With my handloads, if I do my part, it's 5 rounds in one ragged hole. The things are just unbeliveably accurate.
Say Braz, where does your cold bore shot go? Mine is ALWAYS 3/4" high and 1/2" to the left at 100 yards. The next one will be a little closer, then the rest after that just go in the same hole. Amazing.

Hidy folks,
Ammo was Fed Match Gold Medal 168g BTHP. I tried Samson Match in the same configuration and both grouped well, with the Fed a bit tighter.
Dave P's right I should hang it up. heh. I'm not a good shot, these were off the bi-pod of course. Sorry for the brag, but this is my 1st long range rifle and I was amazed. Now I won't have to sit out when my buds start shooting past 100yds. Maybe with some practice I can have a shot at hitting out at 300yds. That would thrill me. For we paper punchers who have no real life need for these rifles, the Savage is perfect. Good fun.
Mesa, as you see, mine was a tad high and left too. A couple'a clicks on the tower and down they came. But by then the barrel wasn't cold any longer. Say Mesa, have you worked on the trigger? If so any advice? This is gonna make going to the range so much more fun than my Mini-14, heh.

Braz, my 10FP has the stock trigger. I took it to a gunsmith and told him I wanted it at 3#. When I tried it out, it wasn't even 0.5#. Way way too light for me. So he adjusted it again, did some minimal polishing here and there, charged me $30 and I have been using it ever since. A lot of people say they can't get the creep out of the stock triggers. Either that guy is a hell of a gunsmith, or I lucked out and got a trigger that cooperated, or the stock triggers ARE useable with a little work. Beats me.
I know I have no need to install a $125 trigger when my groups are one ragged hole. I shoot to 600 yards on a regular basis and unless I get my comeups wrong, or misjudge the wind, I don't miss. When I get on steel at 600 yards, I can put one round after another in a 3"-4" group. I have a 5 round group on paper, witnessed, and taped to my wall that measures 3.25". Maybe a trigger would shrink it to 3", I dunno. It ain't worth it to me.
At Badlands we shot out to 1000 yards and it got almost boring shooting anything less than 800 yards. The instructors there told me that in the class before us, there was a lady with a totally stock 10FP and Black Hills ammo that took top gun. I had one flyer at 300 yards that kept me from having a perfect score. I can assure you that whatever caused it wasn't the gun or the trigger. It was the bozo behind the rifle that did it.
I'm really not that great of a shot. There are folks where I shoot that could rip me a new one if we competed. However, when I get behind my 10FP, I KNOW that if i miss, it's my fault.

Holy Artillery Batman!
6-800 yds?!? Good grief. I'd be a cocky bantum if I could bang a gong at those ranges. Hell, 500 would amaze me. I'm guessing my FP has about a six pound trigger, and I'd be a bit more accurate with around three. But I'm gonna shoot 'er stock for a while before I change anything. Thanks for the advice.
