I have a PA CCW and would like to carry my firearm to Florida - Going down the east coast on 95 - any or what states along the way that anyone knows of not allow me to carry my gun in my vehicle with me? Does my PA CCW allow me to carry it on my person through all the states does anyone know? Thanks for any info or suggestions.

You may not be able to carry in some states, but at a bare minimum you can carry it unloaded in a locked container in the trunk through the other states. Some states may also allow other forms of carry inside the car even if they don't recognize your CCW license.

Where are you from, TAO?

I'm from PA and will be going to FL at the end of March. Here's what I've found...

PA... I have a PA permit.
WV... loaded, not concealed on the console.
VA... loaded, not concealed on the console.
NC... reciprocal state... concealed.
SC... loaded, INSIDE of console.
GA... reciprocal state... concealed.
FL... reciprocal state...concealed.

We don't hit 95 until sometime in SC, I believe. It's quicker for us. But regardless, why go unarmed for several days in FL just because of the drive down?

You can do it...

Look at packing.org again but I thought that there was a federal "peaceable journey" law, so worst case you would lock in up unloaded in the trunk and be ok traveling anywhere (DC?) in the US.

So as long you are ok at the endpoints, worth taking.

Also, packing.org is a great site but they do give you a disclaimer - I'd double check with the source for every state, just to be sure.

In Florida's case, they specifically state that their website is authoritative. In other states, you may need a letter from the attorney general.

Note that if you go to Florida often, it's not a big deal to get a Florida CCW - they make no distinction between resident and non-resident so you get the same permit.

From what I remember, it's NRA saftey class proof, passport photo, notarized application and a check. It's shall issue and can all be done by mail. Only takes 60 days I believe . . . .

PS CHeck the NRA or the NRA-ILA website too; I believe they have gun law summaries available.

I believe that Florida will also accept a hunter's safety course certificate as proof of a saftey course.
