guitarguy314 July 13, 2012, 11:57 PM Hey guys,
Today I put the money down for a Ruger Blackhawk convertible (Super excited and super impatient. XD), but my local gunshop said that their distributors didn't have any in stock, but that more would be available soon...but they couldn't say how soon.
Is this normal? How long should it take for more guns to make their way to the distributor? Isn't Ruger cranking them out every day?
I'm in Pensacola Florida, nowhere remote.
Thanks guys!

N003k July 14, 2012, 12:05 AM I believe Ruger only recently started taking orders again, they got really swamped and demand was far outpacing supply.
I couldn't tell you how long you'll have to wait, but, it might not be long, or it could be awhile depending on how far down the list their distributor is for another shipment.
25cschaefer July 14, 2012, 12:08 AM Ruger is really back logged right now and can't keep up with demand, they have stopped taking orders; they are producing as much and as fast as they can. From what the dealers I have talked to have told me, they never can predict when they will get more in.
This is where you wave your arms and yell, "It's all tha Obama guy's fault! Aaaaaaah!"

Ruger stopped taking orders from distributors in the first quarter of this year due to back orders they couldn't fill.

It will take some time to fill all the back-orders and fill up the pipeline again.

25cschaefer July 14, 2012, 12:14 AM I was looking around and found that same article, you beat me to it.
Maybe the sky isn't falling.
I need to go have a talk with my local gun store, I need some answers!
Readyrod July 14, 2012, 08:16 AM I want to work for Ruger. Here we are in the worst depression (oops sorry the press tells me it's only a recession, yea right) and the guys at Ruger are probably doing major overtime. lucky lucky.
Remllez July 14, 2012, 09:03 AM Sounds like its time to hit Gunbrokker, chances are you can find exactly what you need and it may be just a few mouse clicks away...:)
guitarguy314 July 14, 2012, 11:39 AM -_- You...you have to be kidding me. I finally save up for the perfect gun...and there's a backlog.
The article said that they started accepting orders on May 29th. A month and a half ago. Is it safe to optimistically hope to have the gun by the first week of August, or should I just ask my gun shop to start giving me interest on my down payment?
Thanks guys!
Rollis R. Karvellis July 14, 2012, 05:57 PM Keep in mind that when most part's, and complete item's are made, it is done in batches. Also if it is done too quickly more mistakes will be made, and more mistakes will make it out the door.
def4pos8 July 14, 2012, 08:36 PM My son has been waiting eleven (11) months for a 5.5-inch barrelled Redhawk from his local gun shop. At least every two weeks, the LGS asked the distributor for status, always receiving the "none on hand" response.
In a final effort, he sent a message to the Ruger CEO via Ruger website. In less than one day, a staffer contacted him to verify his order and wait time. The staffer also contacted the retailer to confirm the situation.
His Redhawk is on its way.
I hope you don't have to endure what my son is going through but Ruger does seem to be paying attention to those "Tell the CEO" messages.
guitarguy314 July 14, 2012, 08:51 PM 11 months?! God bless him for waiting. I think I will take a saunter over to Ruger's website and write one of those messages. What should I say? What did your son say in his email?
Does it matter that I know the store and not the distributor information?
Thanks,
and best of luck to your son!
p2000sk July 14, 2012, 09:28 PM The eleven months number may have been part of the reason for intervention.
If a bunch of people start to make similar CEO contacts because they have waited one day or one month so far, that may not get the same "expedited shipping" response as the guy who waited 11 months.
guitarguy314 July 14, 2012, 09:51 PM Very true, but it'll be good for me to know if that one or two month mark rolls around. XD
Sniper66 July 15, 2012, 10:34 AM I am having the same problem with Savage. I am on a waiting list for a .22 Hornet. I know what you mean about being eager and impatient. The wholesaler tells my gun guy that Savage will not give them a date for delivery. The sellers have to take or leave what they are offered. Savage says they cannot keep up with certain models; mine is one of them:(
crazy-mp July 15, 2012, 10:34 AM The gun companies do not make every model in every caliber in every finish all the time. They will make a run of a certain model with a certain finish and barrel length for a set amount of time, then the machines are set up for the next run.
I have several guns on order right now that the manufacturers are quoting 12 month lead times.
rule303 July 15, 2012, 10:49 AM Ruger runs their plants on "lean manufacturing". They will not make a run of a model until they have enough orders, that way no product is sitting on the shelf tying up money. I don't know what model you are looking for, but most of the distributors have .357 and .45 convertibles in stock.
mgkdrgn July 15, 2012, 10:50 AM Hey guys,
Today I put the money down for a Ruger Blackhawk convertible (Super excited and super impatient. XD), but my local gunshop said that their distributors didn't have any in stock, but that more would be available soon...but they couldn't say how soon.

Yes, quite normal. When the distributors don't have them ... they don't have them. And -they- don't know when they will get any more, so they can't tell your LGS so he can't tell you.
Your LGS would be MORE than happy to make your sale, trust me.
So, either get on the phone and call every gun store you can find a phone number for, just on the chance you might find one in stock, or sit and wait like the rest of us.
And yes, I am an FFL, and I have stuff I've been waiting on for -3 years-....
guitarguy314 July 15, 2012, 11:35 AM 12 months!? 3 years?!?!?! That's barbaric.
The only other gun store close to me does have the gun...for a $100 markup.
rule303 I'm looking for the 45 convertible in a 5.5 inch barrel blued. My gunshop can't seem to find one.
Thanks for the info guys!
FROGO207 July 15, 2012, 05:53 PM Are you so impatient that you will spend the extra $100 and have it tomorrow? Or are you willing to wait and get it at the price agreed upon----some time soon.:scrutiny: I personally would wait unless this was needed for obtaining a job or hunt that could not be delayed. I am cheap AND patient you see.:D
kimbershot July 15, 2012, 05:59 PM used to live in ct and bought majority of my guns from hoffman's gun center in newington ct. they are probably the largest seller of ruger's in the country. don;t know for sure--but maybe they will sell via internet. do a google and check out their site. good luck.:)
guitarguy314 July 15, 2012, 06:06 PM FROGO207: I'm pretty cheap too...except when I have to wait a long time. haha...but no. I'll wait for the cheap one.
Kimbershot: Thanks! Will do!
huntsman July 15, 2012, 06:10 PM Did you check Davidson's or Bud's? LGS is great for in stock stuff but with access to many places online I'd never place an order and wait.
oneounceload July 15, 2012, 06:11 PM Is this normal? How long should it take for more guns to make their way to the distributor? Isn't Ruger cranking them out every day?
You're not serious, are you?
Ruger is cranking out the LCP, and other models that are selling faster then a 4 minute mile, unfortuately, YOUR model is not one of those.
They make production runs based on past sales ans future sales predictions, and they go from there - it's the same with ammo makers
guitarguy314 July 15, 2012, 07:25 PM XD. I did only get a B in economics.
I don't know, it just seems like while the Blackhawk isn't an LCP, it is a very popular SA revolver. Which, of course may be the problem, not as many SAS as CC people. It is a niche gun. But at the same time, I never dreamed I'd possibly be waiting months for an in production model.
Not helping the situation is the fact that I am very excited to get this, and I have been saving for months.
