First handgun of 2003

Well, today I bought a Springfield Champion. Been looking for a 4" barrel, full grip size 1911 for a couple months to no avail, as I wanted a non-stainless model and SA stopped making anything but SS. But lo and behold, I found one in a local store, with the black parkerized finish and the steel frame, just what I wanted.
Felt really good in my hand, can't wait to take it for a test run. Almost went for an Ultra Compact that was on sale, but I wanted that 4" barrel and the compact was 3.5" and had a reduced grip frame that turned me off. I like having a slightly smaller gun that will take the same magazines as my full size "Loaded".
I just hate waiting the 10 days while I "cool off"
PS The new test was very simple and I got 100%. The handling test was silly to someone who has multiple firearms, but only took about three minutes. The guys at the store really like giving the test:D NOT!
I can live with it, it's good for a few years unless they try and change it again:rolleyes:

You should have no trouble with the test, it's real common sense questions. The gun handling was weird at the end, as they had me lock the slide open and balance a dummy round (in the ejection port, resting point up on the magazine) and release the slide. This is supposed to emulate a stovepipe, which I then have to show I can clear safely (drop mag, pull back on slide and drop round out). Except, the dummy round was slippery and kept slipping into the barrel! After about 3 tries it stayed put and I was able to show my ability to safe the stovepipe.
The whole thing is not a "bad"idea for new handgun people, but it seems overkill to have someone who already owns multiple arms to keep taking the handling part of the test. just MHO.;)

My first handgun purchases were an excellent condition M13 4" ($225 I think) a beater 1917 Brazilian contract ($200), and a ANIB Sig 220 (for $475). Combined with an excellent-very good Mossberg 590 with ghost rings (for $225), it was a good hour. :) And all private sale. ;)
I love Tennessee.

I just picked up an EAA Witness (blue) LNIB with one mag for $250. I wasn't really looking for one, but I would take one for the right price and that was the right price for me.

I just put a SA Mil-Spec on layaway last week. It fit my hand like a glove, I liked the parked finish and upon inspection it looked like a really well-made pistol. Now if the anticipation, and the wait while I am making payments, doesn't do me in, I will have a nice .45 ACP to go with my 9MM. :D

After all that "Hoo-Haw" over the new CA gun laws, I breezed through and picked up a new S&W 9mm 910s last week. Three hundred rounds through it and I love it. Now my S&W Model 10 has a brother!
