This wasn't anyone here, RIGHT????

February 22, 2004, 11:49 PM
I can't believe people sometime.

Here's an excerpt from a post I found on another forum...
A guy and his wife were shooting CZs and, noticing my wife and I shooting Berettas, came over and started bad-mouthing them.
What possesses someone to approach someone else out of the clear blue and do something like this?

I just don't get it.

I love all guns. They make me happy :D

Intolerance of inanimate obects is bad.

Sheer rudeness, I think...

Too bad duels are outlawed. If they hadn't been, at least you both had your "weapons of choice" at hand. :D

Honestly, though, if someone started badmouthing my AK while I'm at the range, I'll just load up another mag and start blasting away at the paper whether they're finished talking or not. I figure that sooner or later they'll take the hint that I just don't care for their opinion, and that they'll leave.

If they don't, I'll ask them nicely to mind their own business. If even that doesn't work, then I just tell the RO I'll be back in an hour while I go get more ammo. Better to just leave a situation that's just plain annoying than get angry over it... especially when firearms are involved.

Sheer rudeness, resulting from a bad upbringing and or mental illness.

February 23, 2004, 01:24 AM
It takes all kinds. Best to just humor them so they'll go away.

That's not half as bad as someone asking if your Beretta goes "Whop Whop instead of bang bang."

I'm sad to say that I found that anger managment classes are a waste of time for me.

This wasn't anyone here, RIGHT????

Heck no!

I wouldn't touch a CZ if you paid me!

What the heck kind of a lowlife communist would own one of THOSE things anyway? :scrutiny:

I dont think someone badmouthing someone elses' gun is racist, but it is downright rude.

I would have drew back my target, looked at the one ragged hole, then look at his target, then point and laugh!

February 23, 2004, 03:35 AM
You see this everywhere.

My car/truck/gun/motor oil/computer/video card is the best.

Ok, maybe its not the best, but its better'n yours :)

15 years ago, the Amiga computer came out and man - for 10 years, Amiga owners were the most annoying computer people ever because they were all mindless religious zealt drones.

Whatever - I think the ancients would be fascinated by the segments of our society who admire and acquire the best tools, but show no interest in perfecting their craft.

February 23, 2004, 04:15 AM
Hey, I had an Amiga!:scrutiny:

Somebody sounds jealous that their 'puter wasn't as cool as mine.

Just so you know, I think it's only appropriate to let someone know when they're committing a fashion felony. I mean really, who wouldn't want to know that the gun they spent good money on sucks.

February 23, 2004, 04:58 AM
I had a Commodore (still do), couldn't afford the Amiga:) But I have never seen or heard of a stranger walking-up and badmouthing someone else's gun. Thats like talking dirt on a guy's dog, it just isn't done!

February 23, 2004, 05:42 AM
Sheer rudeness, I think...

Too bad duels are outlawed. If they hadn't been, at least you both had your "weapons of choice" at hand.

Of course you can duel in this case. Set up two targets downrange. Have him shoot one until slide lock or 10 seconds pass while you do the same. Best target wins.

You could sweeten the pot by shooting for ammo or "pink slips" (each other's gun), but then you'd end up w/ a Beretta--and who'd want THAT?...:scrutiny:

February 23, 2004, 05:50 AM
It's not the gun anyway that makes the shooter.

Case in point at the trap range this weekend. I'm there with my 870 pump gun....$260 out the door at Bass Pro. Then there's the guys with their Kreighoffs, Perazzis, etc and they're looking at me like I'm straight out of Deliverance.

They changed their tune when I tied or beat all of them, save one guy who was actually very good.

February 23, 2004, 01:53 PM
Hey, that could almost be me.

I shoot CZ's and hate Berettas.

Only problem is that I have manners. I don't offer my opinions unless they're asked for. Besides, unless their Beretta was failing on them constantly, why ruin their good time? I don't care if they're shooting a Jennings. Be safe and have fun.

That obviously didn't happen in Texas, John...

Every real Texian knows you don't insult a man's gun, truck(or horse), dog, or woman. It's neither seemly nor healthy to do so.

February 23, 2004, 04:49 PM
I own a CZ 75B: I also have a curiosity regarding all makes of firearms.
One of my range buddies and I switched handguns for a range session: I fell in love with his Beretta 92 and he really enjoyed my CZ.

Those "people" who alledgedly badmouthed a fellow shooter's Italian
Stallion showed bad breeding.....The guy must have married his sister:neener:

February 23, 2004, 07:41 PM
Being from Texas, I would never bad mouth anyone's gun but now that you know your Beretta is no good maybe you would want me to take it off your hands. You could send it to me, I would take it to the range and save you all that abuse. I realize how nice it is of me to do that, but you must realize...that's just me!:D

Guns suck......... Yeah they suck up my bullets, way to fast no less.. Boy do I love feeding my guns.......
I don't bad mouth any weapons, I like my guns, though I will be selling my Beretta 96 off tomorrow, I can buy another one later.... I WILL NEVER PART WITH MY HK USP, NEVER....... My Glock is a good one too....

Shoot on,

Ot was rude, but CZs are superior to Berettas.

Certainly not the best way to strike up a conversation with someone. It's akin to walking up to a guy's car and then criticizing it. I suppose that shooter to be sent off to Dale Carnegie's Charm School.

February 23, 2004, 11:57 PM
Oh No! Not Dale Carnegie! I took one of those classes last year. Something about group therapy/motivational course and hearing about everyone elses problems just doesn't do it for me. There were some valuable lessons to be learned though.

Anyway. Can't we all just get along!

Wasn't me, since I own and like both.

If it were HK, I'd probably have wondered out loud if the guy was a tactical poseur who's drinking HK brand kool-aid.

February 24, 2004, 01:34 AM
I can understand having strong preferences. However, I can't imagine walking up to a stranger apropos of nothing and telling him his gun is garbage.

I just don't understand how anyone could think that was anything besides incredibly rude.

It goes beyond being just rude--it's as if these people have no clue about what is acceptable behavior and what isn't. Don't people get taught to be polite and have manners these days?

February 24, 2004, 08:35 AM
Of course if someone badmouths your choice of hardware at the range you can challange them to a "duel". Bullseye targets, off hand at 25 yards. :neener: Just tell them to put their money where their mouth is.

Speaking of zealots.
What about the Amiga people who are still impatiently awaiting the second coming?

February 24, 2004, 08:50 AM
When I encounter someone shooting a gun make or model I don't like, I just keep my darn mouth SHUT.

Why insult some stranger for no reason at all? It just makes no sense.

(Of course, if it's one of my buddies, the gloves come off. :neener: )

February 24, 2004, 02:54 PM
This sort of discrimination and Beretta-profiling is just plain wrong. I call for an affirmative-action program to set up quotas of more Berettas at ranges. ;)

February 24, 2004, 10:15 PM
How about just offering to let him shoot a few rounds through your gun? It might change his mind about your "brand"; and who knows, you might just make yourself a new friend/shooting buddy!

February 25, 2004, 04:13 AM
Hey, I had an Amiga!

Somebody sounds jealous that their 'puter wasn't as cool as mine.

I had one with a 40mhz '030 and a 120MB scsi drive and PC emulator - hot stuff. (so dont go assuming :))

But Amiga people where the biggest zealots of all nerds - hands down.

I think its funny people get more worked up about someones hardware than they do about religion or politics.

Personall, if it aint a 1911 or at least a single action auto or a nice revolver, I have no interest in it and I don't want to shoot it - but you can own all the uninteresting guns you like and it does not bother me :)

February 25, 2004, 09:52 AM
Sounds like insecurity and immaturity with a side of bad manners. I wouldn't dis someone's choice of firearm out of hand. One man's meat is another man's poison, we've all got to live within our means and sometimes make do with what we've got. I let my targets do my talking, and it seems to work out that somedays you give lessons, some days you take them.

In virtually every field of endeavor I've dabbled in there always seems to be a class of person who tries to substitute money for diligence, discipline, and perserverance. Rather than take the time and make the effort to become thoroughly familiar and well practiced with their gear, they go out and buy a more expensive "better" one when whatever they've got hasn't turned them into a top contender. A fool with a tool (regardless of how fine a tool), is still a fool.
