Mounting suggestions for mail armor

I have a nice chainmail tunic and coif. I'd like to mount it for display in my home, but can't think of a good way to go about it... hooks on the wall perhaps? A "T" of sorts that stands in the corner? Long nails in studs, supported by a cross beam, maybe of rebar? Thoughts?

Leadcounsel, is the mail butted or riveted? If it is butted you may not want to hang it up because eventually the weight may cause the rings to spread open and it will start shedding links everywhere.

The wooden stand is the most portable method.

A wooden cross is popular for modern body armor.

Probably could do something with this.

Their "Specailty" model might kind of stretch it funny, though.

Sam1911 has the right idea. I did a quick search "torso mannequin" and found them for just under $20 on eBay.

You can get used dummies from local retail supply shops as well as Goodwill and similar charitable shops.

Yeah, I was just thinking you could probably find a mannequin somewhere... :D

I was given a bunch of equipment when a T-shirt printer went out of business a while back. One of the things was a headless, armless plastic torso type mannequin that was used to display mens shirts. It would be perfect for this project. Too bad I threw it in the dumpster because it was just taking up space. If I had known I would have saved it for you. Maybe a store at your local mall can give you an old one.

Thanks for the thought Owen.

I had this IBA stand made in Iraq.

I've put a wood dowel across it and put the armor and coif on it temporarily. Looking for improvements, maybe a mannequin head atop of it or on a shelf.

This is possibly a temporary solution, possibly permanent... we'll see

Wrap the cross bar to distribute the load more like your shoulders would (perhaps put your modern armor on it and then your chain)?

Wear it more often. This is not a storage option, so much as a display option. Even if you don't get to a Renaissance Fair more than every couple of years, as long as you haul it out now and then, clean it off, and wear it in the front yard with bermuda shorts and flip-flops while loudly and vigorously hacking hay bales and cardboard boxes to death with your favorite sword or axe, it will get seen and remembered. OH YES. it WILL be seen and remembered! :D
It's what I would do (actually, _I_ WOULD). I'm wearing the beruda shorts right now. This may also have the desireable effect of spreading the word that your house is NOT to be broken into... the guy who lives there is CRAZY.
