Is a Sig P6 worth it?

Remember when surplus Sig P6's were readily available and cheap....yeah I didn't buy one :banghead:

I recently found one for sale for about $325 OTD which is much better then what Centerfire has them going for. I'm not asking if it's a good pistol (mmm Sig) but rather what the availability of replacement parts is? I've found surplus mags from Copes but what if I need to replace the sights or springs?

A P6 is just a different designation for a P225. Numerich currently has 8 pages of spare parts listed.

$325 is a steal for an old school Sig pistol. The current production equivalent would cost you twice that.

That's a good price and should jump on it even if it was a beater which it doesn't sound like it is. It's one of the most desired guns for Sig collectors and I only see value increasing and not decreasing. Aim Surplus also sells extra mags as well.

Get it, and get some extra mags while you still can.

At $325 it might still be worth considering. The people paying $400 or more for one boggle my mind. For $350 you could get a Sp2022, which has a number of advantages over the P6. For $450 or so once can find used P226s (and a whole lot of other guns that compare very favorably if one isn't set on a sig). When the P6s were cheap they were an awesome buy. At $400+, the really are not much of a deal IMHO. $325 OTD would still be worth considering one if you want that particular gun or a DA/SA sig. If you are just looking for a gun that is a good value, you can probably do better, particularly when you start adding the costs of getting an adequate number of mags.

I had a couple back when they were selling for about that price at the different retailers. What you got was pretty much hit of miss. I had one that looked like it went through the wars by the wear on it, inside and out, the other, was basically brand new in all respects.

For me, by the time I put new springs in them, changed out the mainspring to get a more "commercial" DA trigger, and added night sights, it added another $125 to the price. If mine were one that needed a new or modified barrel to feed hollow points (I was lucky, neither did), that would have been another extra cost.

Having had the P6's, as well as P226's and P229's, I didnt find the P6 to really be a better choice. They are a decent gun, but somewhat dated and limiting compared to newer models. They are really about the same size as a P228/229 with half the capacity. Add to that, mags have become somewhat scarce and a lot pricier than they were at first.

AIM Surplus has P6 mags for $19.99. Get them while they last.
