Not a NFA weapon. Too much legal hot water. You can get any of those in semi, that would save you alot of pain if you did have to use it.

el Godfather is not in the United States, so these aren't "NFA" firearms for him. He's asking a practical question, not a legal one.
The problem, el Godfather, is that you're not giving us much information to work with. Here in the US, if someone is far enough away that you could use an automatic rifle to engage them, then you're probably not legally allowed to use lethal force self-defense.
But if you live somewhere, for instance, where drug cartels are a serious defensive scenario, then your choices might make more sense.
Personally, if I was going to use an automatic weapon out of the choices above, I'd probably want a M16, but only because I'm familiar with the controls because I own AR15s. But I'd probably also want a short barrel and an alternative caliber, like .300 BLK. Just personal preference. There's a lot of information lacking in your question.

i would pick the one i could afford to lose if confiscated by the law in their investigation of the incident.

The M16A2, like one of the earlier post said I have a few, I am familiar with the controls plus I carried one in the military and I know what the weapon is capable of.
Only suggestion would be to convert it to a XM177 Commando I have always thought a 11.5 inch gun with a 4 position selector would be the ultimate entry/vehicle gun.

For HD I want reliability over all else. I would go M16, or even better an M4.
M16's have been getting it done for decades. All the kinks have been worked out and they have been improved and re-improved. Moreover, the aftermarket is as far as the eye can see.
You are not professional enough for the HKs and they hate you.

The AUG is a bullpup and is likely to blow out your ear drum if you shoot it without hearing protection- as you may in a HD situation. The Aussie soldiers I knew preferred the FAL's if they could get them.
If you can have anything you want, think about a shortie AK. I'm just waiting for Kvar to come out with a 7.62 Krink.

Well, ignoring legalities, this is purely acedemic.

Any of the above would blow out one's ear drums if fired indoors.
I'd definitely go with the AUG as it's compactness makes it an ideal weapon for indoor use. I have one with a can for said purpose, although only in semi.

Do you have any pics of your guns? I have been reading your posts for a while and you seem to have some awesome firearms.

The AUG is my favorite. And for home defense a shorter overall length is a big advantage.

I've seen HK416 in action and they are freaking amazing now if the question was asked (HK416 or a G36C) I would have to think a little.

HK416. The AUG is a neat design, but I do not like the trigger being the selector switch. The M16A2 is too long for HD, and I prefer to have the manual of arms of the M4/M16 family which rules out the G36 (it is also too large).

I don't think any of these are efficient for the HD role. If I had the money to buy one of these, I could do much better and spend a fraction of the amount. Frankly, given your posts (which I tend to follow, like Nneely), I wouldn't guess saving a few grand is something you fret over.
If I wanted to buy one for the "other" purpose, I'd pick the G36 or the M16A2. Choose your MOA. I chose the A2 - for the "other" purpose. I choose a shotgun for HD.

Another vote for the M16A2. I'm familiar with it, have used them effectively in combat (albeit with the M4). No to the AUG, unless I could get a lefty, but even then, on FA, I'd have to plan for a mag swap, and I've got no practice on the bullpup. Not familiar with the other options, so Americas finest it is.

I picked the A2 as I have been using the M16 platform for about 45 years. I had a few years experience with an AUG and that was enough to teach me its better for people who want to look cool and having a reliable firearm is second on their list.
