Taurus TCP troubles

I bought a Taurus TCP .380 about 2 months ago. The first time I ran a box through it the side of the frame bulged out to the point where the slide latch would not engage or disengage without doing it manually. It didn't affect any other functions of the gun. I noticed the slide wasn't locking back or disengaging when the mag wasn't in, but didn't notice the bulge for a couple mags.

I sent the gun into Taurus and got it back within a couple weeks fixed.

I shot it for the first time today since I got it back. I shot can couple mags of Federal Champions through it and the same thing happened again. I shot a couple more mags through it and it seemed to go away. Now it seems to be okay. Anybody know why a gun would be doing this?

I know that if I send it back to Taurus again they will not see anything wrong and just send it back to me.

What would you all suggest?

The polymer grip frame is thin and not bonded to the inner aluminum subframe, as you probably know.

If the takedown pin was trying to walk out against its retaining spring that spring could pry the plastic outward. Or perhaps the slide lock was wedging out at the same point. The slide lock and takedown pin use the same spring.

Since the problem hasn't returned after the first few magazines, perhaps the problem is related to the gun breaking in.

As an afterthought, when you take the gun down for cleaning how does the takedown pin and and the barrel lug the pin goes through look?

I use a bit of gun grease on those two items to make sure everything slides in and out of barrel lock up nice and easy. The grease can give a cushioning effect, too.

Those all look okay as far as I can tell. I did notice today as I cleaned it that the front pin in the frame was out just a hair, but I don't think it has anything to do with the other issues.

Believe me, I am not a Taurus Basher (my latest toy is a 608), but what you have isn't normal. No gun grip/frame should bulge out when fired. I have quite a few el-cheapo Kel Tecs and none of them do that. It isn't a part of normal break-in. If you're not sending it back to Taurus, at least have it looked at by a 'smith.

Easy just replace T in 'TCP' with an L.

What letter is in your serial number of your pistol. A, B or C

Hardluk, it is a C. It doesn't seem like something that is making the gun unsafe, but I've never encountered anything like this before.

Could the buldge of the frame be normal ??? I had a Taurus TCP 738 a few years back but can't remember if it had a buldge or not. I know on my Kahr PM9 the frame has a buldge or it bows out and this I have read is normal. I would suggest going to Taurusarmed.net and asking the people on that forum. They should be able to assist you with this. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

I will watch mine to see whats up too. Mine has maybe a 1/32 of a "bulge" to the left side of the frame and the pin will move in and out of about only a 1/16" with a push and pull. I do know on mine atleast the spring that holds the pin can be a pain in the rear to get the assempbly pin by it . Got to learn the "how to's" on mine still. Sure shoots well for a little bit of a pistol.
