Will the current gun control frenzy derail the long overdue renaissance of the 7.92x33? And platforms that shoot this fine cartridge?

Well, there's nothing firm anywhere yet about real change in gun control laws, so it's kind of pointless to speculate WHAT will be affected IF any legislation is even brought up for a vote eventually.

But, is there a renaissance of MP-44s and 7.92x33 Kurtz on the horizon?

Yeah, what renaissance??? A couple of manufacturers have played with the ammo, and I think one firm was trying to market a semi variant for the MP44. Not exactly what I'd call a movement, or anything that might be "de-railed".

Somebody please do an AR-15 upper in 7.92 Kurz!

It seems to me like it would be one of those cartridges that would do equally well (or way better) in SBRs than the smaller bullets that are relying on very high velocity. Yes, I do refer to 5.56x45. I am a fan of that cartridge mind you and shoot mine out of a 20" bbl. I hope to obtain a bolt gun in 5.56 and I'd go 22" or more there I expect.

Ok. What do SBRs have to do with any proposed legislation? (Title II stuff is already heavily regulated.) And is anyone making SBRs in 7.92x33?

Someone please do an entire AR-15 SBR in a pistol-specific lower receiver size! We don't have any kind of choices in a much more common caliber that would work perfectly from a 10" barrel. What exactly would 7.92 Kurz offer aside from historical curiosity?

With approximately the same bullet weight almost triple the energy of my Colt 9mm carbine in the same sized package while not causing the same feed from the magazine problems of the much more tapered 30 Soviet case in the AR platform.

Besides, why not add one more hard to find caliber to my list of 41 Mag, 32-20, and such?

Robert,
6.8 SPC is more available around here.

Surprised to hear this is a 7.92x33 renaissance. Sure, it's gotten some press attention lately, but there's more buzz and support for 6.5, 6.8, 300BLK, and others. Plus SBR'd and suppressed rifle? 7.62x39 ballistics without the headaches? Enter the 300BLK, gentlemen.

Well the Renaissance was coming...and coming full steam ahead...only to be derailed by this new round of gun control nonsense fueled by pin-headed liberal pundits. The antis fear nothing more than this very capable and excellent caliber making its way back into the range bag of shooters and then, in their twisted gun-hating minds, presumably into the drum magazines of madmen.

Well the Renaissance was coming...and coming full steam ahead...It WAS? Where? From whom? That's what I was asking before! Who was spearheading this new push for the 7.92x33?

...only to be derailed by this new round of gun control nonsense fueled by pin-headed liberal pundits.Uh, WHAT new round of gun control nonsense? There's nothing really even on the table yet. A few ideas have been floated about restricting on-line ammo sales or maybe magazine restrictions. Nobody ANYWHERE has been proposing some kind of ban that would affect that round. What are you talking about?

The antis fear nothing more than this very capable and excellent caliber making its way back into the range bag of shooters and then, in their twisted gun-hating minds, presumably into the drum magazines of madmen. Look, the "antis" have never HEARD of that very capable and excellent round. Most GUN GUYS have never heard of it! No one fears it any more than any other round.

Are you pulling our legs? If so, this is very funny, but too subtle.

Heck, I'm just mad that Obama is going to push through the new rule that .30 Luger and 8mm Lebel are going to be outlawed! That has utterly stopped the coming resurgence of two fantastic and venerable cartridges that make the upper-centrist anarcho-statists quake in their loafers! :D

Not .30 Luger! Noooooooo! What with a version of the original Broomhandle now on the drawing boards of every major US firearms manufacturer this would be too much to bear! These people have got to be stopped. Vote people, vote like your guns depend on it (which of course they do).

The ignorant asking a question. Why 7.92 X 33 rather than 7.62 X 39? Just because? Be nice.

Well, it IS cool, and its flagship gun, the MP-44 is a "grail gun" that most of us will never get a chance to shoot, let alone own. But it is close enough to 7x62x39 in performance to be utterly equivalent. (125 gr. at 2,250 -- sure sounds familiar, doesn't it?)

I order stuff from AIM on occasion. And more than once I've almost bought a box of 8mm Kurz just "because." It's WWII history, why not?

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=AP8KFMJ&name=Prvi+8mm+Kurz+124grn+20rd+Box&groupid=44

I suspect that I would feel the same way if somebody would actually make a new rifle that chambered the cartridge. If it worked well and it somehow "made sense" for the cartridge.... I'm a sucker for such things. New dies, new brass, new challenges!! Who could ask for anything more??

I had never considered it for a SBR AR upper. That does have some virtues. But what would you use for magazines?

Gregg
