Anyone know of any American made ammo in this caliber? Some pretty good buys on foreign surplus right now, but that may dry up someday. Be nice if there is some domestically made.

Hornady. Might be other smaller producers, too. Wolf also makes it, but that's imported, though it's not surplus.

Well, going off the 7.62x39 round I would guess that once the cheap foreign surplus ammo dries up more companies will start to step in and produce new commercial ammo to meet demand. You can already find new Russian made ammo like silver bear or brown bear pretty easily, but there won't be too many American makers producing it in their cheap plinking ammo lines while you can still buy uber cheap bulk surplus ammo.

According to a manager at Aim Surplus there are literally mountains of 5.45 to be imported.
Right now we're between big shipments and another buying binge is in effect so the current supply in-country is low.

And I feel like there always will be, seeing as it's still the standard cartridge of the Russian military. It's being produced in gigantic amounts.

I don`t think any of it is American made, I think even Hornady uses steel cases they buy from Russia, they just do the loading..............

Guys,

A concern of mine is you can not (as of right now) buy it in the big "Spam" cans (2160 round cans). Every retailer appears to be "Sold Out".

I must be lucky as I can walk into any Fleet Farm here in MN and get the spam cans easily. I was at the one close to my house the other day and they had 10 on hand. $149.95 every day. They have them on sale for $139.95 once in a while. If I had the cash and did not have 5 already I would get more.

The cases and primers are either Tula or Wolf, don't remember which. So yes, those are Russian.

I didn't realize any 5.45x39 ammo was manufactured in the USA.

There isn't any yet.
Hornady is importing Russian steel primed cases and loading them with Hornady sporting bullets.
That isn't actually "manufacturing" the ammo.
