That's right, about two weekends ago Yr. Humble Scrivener shot some Trap and Wobble with some of the people who bring us the news. These folks worked for a national network, and since I didn't ask if I could mention it, let's just say chances are you've seen lots of stuff these folks have done, from Little Rock to Bosnia.Hint, there's no peafowl in their ads.
Not the Talking Heads folks,these were the tech types.One cameraman(Former Combat Photographer in the Nam Mess),some engineers.Mostly they shot rental guns, though one gent had a Beretta Pigeon he hadn't mentioned to his wife, describing her as Super Liberal.
I commiserated. WW's politics run a little left of center also.Otherwise, she's quite sane and rational.
I had shot with one or two of them before.This time,they brought their buddies and were trying to learn the games.
I gave some tips and they were hitting enough to have fun. In the course of time, the trap house needed replenishing, and while that happened, we discussed politics, the media and gun control.
That's where it got interesting....
These folks were sane,sober,reality based men who had some experience with firearms, lots of experience in violent places and tons of experience with the folks who we elect.
They mentioned that pro gun news bits and sound bites were not used.
The unofficial line was there was no good pro gun input at that network. And the cameraman bitterly mentioned that if 100 people were attending a pro gun rally, he was told to get a good picture of some grossly overweight oaf in full camo and ignore normal looking people or make it appear they opposed the oaf.
I expressed my distaste for this kind of slanting, and one of the engineers piped up.
He had covered some of the debates during the vote for the AWB. He had some footage of one of the most virulent anti gun Pols we have during a "factfinding" expedition to Quantico. Said blot on the public Escutcheon was filmed as he hip shot a "Streetsweeper" with a really dopey grin.
A couple of the others nodded, and comments were made that said Pol had a blast shooting one of the guns that he claimed was only made to kill people.
And while they told me who it was, I didn't say I'd not quote them, so he shall remain nameless here.
Of course, that film has never seen the light of day.It may possibly not exist any more.
Anyways,we switched to the Wobble Trap where laughter and glee abounded. Damn, that's fun!
As I drove home, I reflected on how one of our public figures could preach one thing and practice another. Is hypocrisy a prerequisite for public service these days? Seems to be. One Pol preached about family values and helped the word "Lewinsky" move from being a name to a verb.
Another, one of the last of the staunch segregationists, fathered a half black child while he preached racial separation and inequality.
Do some of our "Leaders" regard themselves as above the law? Most assuredly.
Do some have enough knowledge about weaponry that they HAVE TO KNOW what they're spouting and passing as law reeks like the compost pile on a hog farm?
H*ll, yes.This isn't ignorance, it's outright lies and untruths.
Come November, let your personal committment to keeping and bearing arms rule your choices for elected offices from the Presidency down to School boards.
Do not let your birthright be sold for a mess of Pottage....
