How sandable are S&W factory auto grips?

Have been offered some rough ones; wondered how practical it would be to sand them smooth? Anyone tried it with success? Pictures? Thanks, Joe

huh, I've never seen poly grips on 3rd gens that were particularly rough. It's a pretty hard plastic, so you should be able to sand it down just fine. Just be wary in the backstrap area, because the grip panels are what support the bottom of the main-spring. You don't want to weaken it if you can help it.

I think the grips are molded Nylon.
And pretty abrasion resistent
As such, they can be ground & buffed if you have a buffer.

Sanding, not so much.
The stuff is tougher then woodpecker lips.
