Hello THR, a local gunshop has Mosin Nagant's in stock (round and hex) for $139 cash or credit. Is this a good deal if the rifle is in good shape? They come with all the goodies as well. MA has been selling these like crazy and are harder to find here.

Depends on your location. My local gunshop has them for $100 in great condition with all the accessories. However a few towns over they are selling them in worse shape w/o accessories for $175 + tax :)

I'd say it's not a HORRIBLE deal but probably better out there.

My location is the northern Boston area/ North Shore. Here is the gun shop link. http://www.northshorefirearms.com/id77.html

Check out www.classicfirearms.com. They have Mosin 91/30s for $90 and you can upgrade with a Tula option for an additional $15. But then you have to pay shipping and FFL fees when they ship it. Also gun shows usually have them for under 100 so that would negate the fees. Hope that helps some.

I would suggest the gun shows as well. I nabbed one for less than $100 including tax. Came with all the "goodies" too.

That seems awfully high for a normal 91/30. If it was an ex sniper that'd be one thing but not a normal run of the mill 91/30.

Gotta love these prices in my local gun shops... I can't wait to move to NH.

I've definitely seen worse prices for beat up Mosins. But I paid $85+ tax for mine at a gun show. I would think MA might have higher prices than around here though and possibly a state tax on firearms with the laws being more strict.

That is not a bad price, but there are certainly cheaper places to get them. If it is in within your budget though, I'd say go pick one up! They are awesome rifles with a lot of history, and ammo is very cheap.

If you have to spend gas money to drive somewhere to find a better deal, or order online and pay transfer fees, possibly shipping, then I'd say it's a heck of a deal.

My LGS has crap ones for more than that. Cabelas never has em in stock at $150. So, buy it.

I love all my Mosin rifles. I got the long and carbine length, but i prefer the M 44 for sheer fun , compactness and power factor. And the cool factor aka spike bayonet and spewing fire when fired in low light.

That may be a good price if the rifling is in good condition and is not counter-bored; possibly a rare manufacturer, etc. Check for US, French or Finnish rifles hiding amongst the run-of -the mill M91/30s.

A word of warning about Classic Firearms: their customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. I paid for a hand-select Yugo M24/47 and (a month later I might add) received a rifle with a bent barrel. I sent it back to them and never got a replacement. After a month of repeated calls, I was able to get my money back, but I had to eat the cost of shipping.

I would pay that for a hex receiver with a really good bore, I would pounce if that was an OTD price. We have Mosins on sale here fairly regularly for $90-ish but quality is hit & miss. They are selling units & occasionally a real gem turns up.

Here's a good website for all things Mosin Nagant.

$130 if it has mint bore is a bargain. A mint bore is worth every dollar than a cheaper one with dark rusty bore, or worse a counterbored.

I bought a Mosin-Nagant 1891/30, hex receiver, made in Tula 1933. Bought it in April, 2010 for $89.95 online at J & G Sales. Had to pay $50.00 transfer fee to my local gun shop/range. Rifle is in excellent shape, with a dark bore, but a good shooter and functions reliably. The more I shoot it, the more I love it! :)

They just got 20 of them in at the new price of $139.95 plus the 6.25% sales tax. I hear they are in excellent condition and for the most part are pretty clean. I will buy it tomorrow!!! What's a good price on a 20 round box and the ammo can price?

I have two counterbored Model 91's that shoot very good, I mean I can hit gallon milk jugs at 300 yards open sight with them. Is counterbored a desease or something?

300 yd gallon milk jugs is some pretty tight open sight shooting.

Nothing wrong with counterbored bores.

Personally I'd rather hunt for a 91/30 closer to the $80 range than $140. Your chances of finding one that shoots really well are about the same, but you'll be a whole lot less bummed at the lower end if it doesn't quite meet expectations.

A coworker just sold a 91/30 to another coworker for $80... dang it, I have enough guns and passed on it but didn't know he was selling super cheap.

I just joined the 'Mosin Club' thanks to an awesome father in law who was able to buy in on the sale I thought I'd miss. Russian Tula M91/30 1942 round reciever with a refurb mark on the stock from the Ukraine (don't know if this matters). All four serials matching but have to look closer at the bolt to see if it was scrubbed and forced to match. Anyways: Rifle and 440rds of ammo for $199 no bayonet and no accessories but I can grab the bayonet for $15, and don't really care about the accessories except maybe the 'bolt tool' that looked useful.

Good Luck!

I thought MA had a list of "approved" guns. How does the Mosin get on that list?

I am so sick of the list, you have no idea. I don't mean to be rude it's just that MA brainwashes and beats its citizens with compliance laws. The list more has to due with handguns. New Glocks, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Colt, and tons of other guns cannot be sold for retail sale in the state. They can be transferred in if they are used but they can only have 10 rounds (or pre-ban). Our 10 round law applies to all firearms and our stocks have to pinned unless the lower is preban. The Mosin is fine because it has an attached magazine and is bolt action, and its overall length is way over 26". So exhausting!!!

I don't know if they send out guns. Why, is this a better looking 91/30 than what's out there now?

Certainly looks like a higher premium finish than most usually are (not to be confused with Finnish, sorry couldn't help myself from a little mosin noobie humor). lol

That will be a better price than -any- mail order Mosin you find, once you factor in shipping and the FFL transfer.

So yes, that is a good price.

Thanks for all the comments! The gun was $146 after tax and judging by the quality of the rifle after I cleaned the cosmoline, I made out real good. The wood is in excellent shape and the bore is a little black but I am ordering some bore paste so it'll shine right up. It will shoot great I am sure of that.

Regional chain store "Fleet Farm" has them for $100 every day and they go on sale for $90 every month or so. From what I have seen they are the usual mix of nice and not so nice examples.

I just bought my first Mosin, the M44 carbine and its a pleasure to shoot. With these low prices that everyone is posting, I might just pick up the 91/30 model too!

Yes. The ones at my LGS are abused, not that it isn't the norm to see a beat up old war horse. But, there's yours...

Jealousy begets envy. I'm now on a mission: my first Mosin. If it looks as good as yours, mission accomplished.

Call North Shore Firearms in Middleton MA tomorrow. Just google the shop and give them a call and where you're from. You may be getting a rifle from my crappy state!
