Colt Commander ejection issue

As the title says, I've got an issue with spent case ejection. Seems to eject brass into my forehead right between my eyes. The first couple of times I admit it's humorous but after 100 rounds it gets downright annoying. And I'd hate to have a hot casing hit me in the eye if and ever TS is ever hitting TF.

Is this something I might be able to fix myself or is this a factory or gunsmith fix?

The slide is batting the cases back at you because they're not clearing the port soon enough and being hit by the edge of the port. The extractor needs to be adjusted so it doesn't hold onto the case so long ( a little looser). Check the front of the ejector to make sure it doesn't have a piece chipped off of the nose. There are sticky posts on both of the 1911 forums that detail how to change the angle of the ejector's nose to "steer" the cases where you want them to go and how to "tune" the extarctor. The cases need to go out the side of the port without being kicked up so much. If the ejector hits the rear of the case down low it will kick it up. If it hits it a little higher it will go out to the side. A decent 1911 smith should be able to tune this for you.

Thank you all.
Auto426: I believe the gun was made in 1972.
