TV ANCHOR’S GUNS SWIPED

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

January 31, 2003 -- Cops on Long Island are probing the theft of thousands of dollars in guns stolen last week from the Bridgehampton home of TV news anchor Bill Beutel.
The seven weapons - five shotguns and two rifles - were discovered missing on Jan. 22 from a closet in the basement of Beutel’s posh seaside estate on Ocean Road.

The semiretired Channel 7 “Eyewitness News” anchorman told The Post the guns were family heirlooms handed down from his father - and thus had greater sentimental value than the $4,500 he said insurance estimates placed on the weapons.

The 70-something Beutel last saw the guns on Jan. 18. His wife, Adair, said she noticed the guns missing four days later.
