Ruger #1, Good Deal?

I have a chance to pick up a Ruger No. 1 in the .223 varmitter variant from a "buddy" who needs money (I hope for child support as he is my x-cousion in-law and is behind, but thats another story). It has a simons brand "whitetail" scope on it.

That is all I know at this time other than it is about two years old and he bought it new and did not use it much.

The fellow that owns it took it back to more or less pawn it at the shop he bought it, but they "would not give him what he wanted".

He will take 400.00 for the whole set up.

I don't know much about rifles, and nothing about the single shot rugers.

A simple "yes" or "no" answer will do, but feel free to ellaborate on its actual value. I do not see me hanging on to this very long if I get it as I have no use for it.

Thanks,

ehenz

Yeah, that's a good deal. I wouldn't even count the value of the scope in that as Simmons scopes are very inexpensive.

I would expect to pay at least $500 for a used #1 in good shape.

That is a good price. If it it's a stainless model with gray laminated stock it's a great deal! If it's in good condition.

Either way, I'd buy it. Matter of fact, I would buy it.

FWIW: It is the blued version with a nice looking wood stock.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

If I do buy it, I'll post it here in the for sale forum first and pass my savings along to my fellow Highroaders. I'm really not interested in making a profit (hassle), just want to break even and put some food in my niece and nefews' mouths, so to speak that is (they don't really go hungry).

Thanks,

ehenz
