a friend of mine had one a while back that I was able to shoot a few times. I made a trade this weekend and got a cz 82 in the deal for my wife. I forgot what a fun little gun it is to shoot and how accurate it really is. a great buy for the money invested. $229 currently if you buy one.
I am sure others here that have had training understand " tap rack ready" for a weapons malfunction. if not .. when your pistol doesnt fire the first thing you check is wether the magazine is seated properly "tap" the mag with the palm/heal of your support hand. I noticed that the magazine on the cz doesnt offer much "tap" area. the floor plate is too thin and not very wide. after looking through my parts box I found some beat up Beretta 92fs mags. the floor plates from the Bretta mags replace the thin cz part great. Mag still seats perfectly and the Beretta floor plate offers no miss tapping! one less possible oops in a stressfull situation if your using the cz for defense. it should also make spare mags ( you do carry spares right? lol ) easier to grab from where ever you have them tucked in.
when I dissasembled the cz for a good once over before the wife or myself shot it the slide catch spring fell out. It looks like a shepards hook. one end goes in the slide catch the hook over a bar in the frame. I quickly realized that someone had installed it upside down so it was loose. After fighting it with a flat head screwdriver for a few minutes I was frustrated because it kept slidding off the screwdriver when I would try to push it in place. I switched out to a small flat file and popped it right in. so if you run into that problem use a file so it wont let the spring slide when your pushing it onto the bar.
as an aside. the wife shot over 300 rounds through it yesterday with no malfunctions and she had a blast. my kids had just as much fun and they all goot some good training in. now I guess I will be picking up 2 more for my teenage kids to shoot. glad they are only 229 bux!
anyone else have some tips or improvements they have done to their cz82 ?

That spring is a commonly encountered problem. The newer design, (on th CZ83), uses a different shape and slightly different installation method that is not prone to fall out.

Here's a good tutoral concerning the mag release. Great photos.

Some people complain of sharp recoil and slinging brass to the next county. Replace the (worn out) recoil spring with a 16lb Wolff spring and the 82 is really a soft, controlled shooter with little to no flip!....Also that worn spring is battering the frame, hence the sharp recoil.

I added the Beretta magazine bases to my magazines. They fit perfectly and help by adding a bit more grip area for my large hands.

great tutorial on the mag release. thanks!
I think this one may already have the heavier recoil spring.recoil didnt seem bad and it is a little stiff to cycle by hand. I wonder if there is a sure way to tell if the spring has been replaced?
awesome little gun for my wife and they dont break the bank to get one so A+ in my book.

Silver Bear hollowpoints aren't a great HP, but they're cheap enough to stock up on
I've been seeing Hornady Critical Defense

Example links (I'm not endorsing these places to buy from, although I do like Midway)

Buffalo Bore. The CZ 82 and P64 are the only two pistols I know of that are rated by BB themselves to be strong enough to handle their hot loads. Shot it outta mine, stock springs and no mods (just a plain ole CZ82) and it is accurate, hard hitting, and IMO THE premier SD ammo for these pistols. I highly recommend them.

I noticed a brand new Gel Test of Hornaday XTP 95 grain earlier today (http://youtu.be/whURQiqm8aQ). I'll probably pick some of it up now for myself.

DO NOT REMOVE THE SLIDE RELEASE OR SEAR/HAMMER BLOCK (it's the spring that's a MAJOR pain to install correctly)
you will spend days fixing it or send the gun to CZUSA in a bag.

otherwise a great gun, easy to shoot and surprisingly accurate.

For about $50 more one can get something like S&W 669. There is no need to dick around with improving the gun and endless selection of quality ammo available at any good gun shop. Places like Walmart also have it as regular item.
