I am considering the Circuit Judge in .410. If you don't approve of the concept and think that it's an answer to a question that noone asked, please don't bother to respond. I'm not looking for a debate. I'm looking for folks who own one or have at least shot one. Please tell me of your experiences with them.
I currently have a 12 ga that I'm not real fond of. Maybe the fit is wrong, I don't know. But anyway, I don't like it. I think a .410 would be more to my liking. This would strictly be for HD and having some fun at the range. My wife would also be able to use this gun if necessary. The 12 ga would never happen for her.
The revolver seems like a simple operation. No jamming. I also like fiber optics which it has. There is a synthetic stock model (SCJT4510) that I'm thinking about.
So if you have one, let me know how it's been for you. Knowing what you know now, would you buy it again?
Thanks for your input.

I'm just bumping this up. I know that some of you folks own these. I've done a search and read the results, but I'm thinking that there may be other owners that may not have contributed to those threads. Just trying to get as much info as I can.

Obviously, a .410 isn't ideal for HD, but in your case it sounds perfect. Since the wife will feel comfortable with it, I say go for it. I personally don't have any experience with the CJ, but know a couple of people that have one and they are pleased. Just pattern it with a few types of ammo and go with what it shoots best. Good luck!

Honestly, the gun feels excellent in my hands and I love them. That type of gun isn't tops on my list right now, but after I get a couple others, that is going to be showing up in my house.

Thanks guys.
I have read on forums of a few instances where the stocks have cracked with use. That's disturbing, but getting the synthetic stock version should solve that problem.

The Tuffy with 200-grain .45 Colt JHP should make a fine home defense piece, assuming you've tested that it's accurate and not keyholing at home defense ranges. It has a nice short length of pull, and is lightweight, but the standard pressure Colt should have very controllable recoil.

I really liked how the Tuffy felt when I handled it at SHOT 2011. If it stabilizes .45 Colt, and shoots it accurately, it should make a great home defense piece.

Thanks John. Although I was planning to use it in .410 mode for HD if I get one.

We bought SCJ4510SS rossi for our 12 year old daughter and the light weight of the gun is a big plus. The balance is nice and this one has wood not plastic stock as the other one was not available. I was concerned about the flash coming out of the cylinder gap but rossi has built shields that stops that from happening on your forearm.
At 25 yards, shooting the 45 colt handloaded towards 950fps using a 250gr bullet, groups at 25 yards were 2". When shooting 410 shells, the pattern for my reloads were excellent at 25 yards. However I tried a box of Rem slugs both with and without the choke tube you get with the gun and in my case, it was not looking good as far as accuracy. Definitely could be the shells but didn't try any others yet or loaded up any slugs.
Would I buy this gun again? YES

Wbwanzer,
I like the piece, but for home defense, a rapidly expanding .45 will be your best choice. Expanding .45 JHP in the 200-250 grain, 900-1200 fps range (I'm accounting for the extra velocity from longer barrel), are a very well-known entity. I think the Tuffy loaded with heavyweight but moderate-strength loads- if it will stabilize them- would also be a fine camp defense gun everywhere but Alaska and Africa, with the added benefit of taking small game with the .410.
P&h, I've been wanting to test the Tuffy for a year and a half. Thanks for the info.

I got the judge rifle just so the wife could play to it is light hits what is aimed at and fits her well have run a few thousand rounds through it brinnel 18 255 grain wad cutters it seems to like real well all though cylinder gets sticky after a 100 rounds a pause and light cleaning takes care of that. One complaint the first stock cracked hair line were it meets the fire arm right behind triger but Rossi sent a new one right out they are true to there word on repairs other than that great weapon my kids handle it well to.:)

Sorry if this is an ignorant question but - Does anyone know if gas escaping from between the cylinder and forcing cone has any effect on the forearm of the supporting hand?
I am interested in the concept of this type of configuration, but don't have any experience with revolvers except with what I read online. I have read horror stories of people losing fingers due to misplacing them too far forward.

Rossi has installed 'gas deflector shields' on the Circuit Judge. I don't own one so I can't speak to how well this works. I am the OP here. I ended up buying a 20 ga semi-auto shotgun instead of the Rossi.
