My shooting buddy and I have been experimenting with E3 powder in 45acp shooting 200gr cast lead swc bullets for over a year now with great results. It is a very consistent, very accurate powder and the cleanest burnig powder we have ever used.
There is no handgun data published for it however.
Just wanted to throw this bit of info out there.

I personally like 4.2gr and my shooting buddy has some heavy slide guns with Bomar sight ribs and he likes 4.5gr.

I was wondering if anyone had done any load development with E3. The idea of using it for pistol has been in the back of my head for a while, but I had seen that there was no information out there. Thanks for the info.

Isn't E3 a shotshell powder?

A lot of the handgun powders are also shotgun powders. In fact, most of them are. If you look at one of the shotgun reloading manuals, you'll see a lot of familiar names there on the powders.
Hope this helps.

Not surprising, shotgun powders tend to do really well in 45acp. Some of the most accurate loads I have ever made were with 700x.

I know full well there are many shotgun powders used in handgun ammo including Unique. I was only asking because some of the newer shotgun powders are formulated so that pressures can spike when used in anything else. The older stuff is time tested and the newer stuff worries me initially...

RDot is great with cast slug loads in near anything but keep the charge on the safe side it does 'pressure spike'
clean burning as most flake powders are and economical. somewhat difficult to throw though

I have used 3.5 gr. E3, WLP, behind a 185 gr. LSWV for ca. 745 fps and excellent accuracy. It appears to be slightly faster than Clays. I have also exsperimented with WAA Lite powder but those tests are not completed.
