Hi All. I'm visiting here from the Ruger Old Army Club in the Black Powder Shooting forum area. Over there, my stuff starts around page 37? I think maybe they wanted me to come over here 'cuz what I wanna carry on about will hog their forum, and there's content that applies to the other Ruger Single Action Revolvers too. Actually, the principles in this very long series of pdf's and fotos can be applied to just about any single action revolver.

This will be a series of posts, over several days. Please read the pdf's "Action ROA1,2,&3".
I use this format (pdf's) because the system continually requires me to re-login when the typing takes too long. So I compose it ahead o' time, scan it to pdf, and post it quickly.

Kindest Regards,
Hope this turns out to be fun for all of us!

I use this format (pdf's) because the system continually requires me to re-login when the typing takes too long. I don't open PDF files because they are known to sometimes carry a virus.

Maybe it would be more fun for you, and everyone else, if you checked the "Remember Me" box when you sign on.

I haven't had to sign on again for over a year now, and never ever get timed out & dropped while typing..

If that doesn't do it, clear all the Cookies on your computer and do it again.

I don't know if this makes any difference: I run Linux. OpenOffice is my word processor. There are usually "across platforms" issues that limit my compatiblility w/other systems. So I always use programs/applications that are universal...ie. Adobe Acrobat. I don't know how to send drawings, mainly, another way.

Don't mean to be e-resistant...I'm just igornant.

Well, there is a basic problem in Doak's concept. He wants to improve the trigger pull by eliminating any camming action of the sear on the hammer. That is to say, to make sure sear movement does not move the hammer.

That does give a good trigger pull but it also prevents sear reset. A good sear-trigger design will require that the sear movement cam the hammer back slightly by setting the hammer notch at a positive angle. That makes the trigger pull heavier, but if the trigger is released partway through the pull, the hammer notch angle will force the sear back into the notch.

If that is not done, and the trigger is released partway through the pull, the sear will not return into the notch. In the worst case, the sear will be left right on the edge of the notch and the hammer will then fall at the slightest touch of the trigger.

Many of those who do "trigger jobs" use a zero angle or even a negative angle to improve the trigger pull, and in most cases, in a purely range gun there will be no problem. But in the real world, people do sometimes start to pull the trigger, stop for some reason, then resume the pull. In addition, a zero or negative angle can allow the hammer to be jarred off if the gun is dropped. While that would not be dangerous in a new model Ruger with a transfer bar, the ROA is the old action and a jar off can result in a broken sear or trigger or worse, an accidental discharge.
