Inconsistent crimp L-N-L??

I'm setting up a L-N-L progressive press for the first time and I am adjusting the dies and running a few cases through the new press one-at-a-time.

In checking the final loaded cases, about 50% will not chamber in the barrel but the rest of the rounds are OK.

For those that do not chamber, it seems like the crimp is too much but it is a mistery why this is not an issue will 100% of the cases. What else would cause this; would this be caused by the resizing die or the expansion die?

What caliber are you reloading? Rifle or pistol?

Regardles of what you're doing, do ALL the pistol rounds pass the barrel plunk test? If not, your problem is most likely COL related, not crimp related.

You're resizing die is not an issue. You're crimping die may be an issue if you are not removing the flare enough.

More information please.

Consistent crimping depends on consistent case length. Your press and dies could be mathematically perfect, and you'd still get variances in crimp if your brass isn't all the same length.

Too much flare can cause a bulge that is too far down to be removed by a crimp die (without destroying the bullet). Also, are you seating and crimping in the same station? This can cause inconsistent crimping.

Also, are you seating and crimping in the same station? This can cause inconsistent crimping. Only if it is set up incorrectly, or the case lengths are too varied.

Did you check all of the die settings with a full shell plate. This can give you some variation if you set it up with a single shell, and then do not fine tune everything with all of the stations in play.
