Preferred load for Single Six?

Let's hear it, folks. Which load/loads does YOUR Single Six .22 Long Rifle prefer?
I picked up a nice 1978 NMSS today and tried it out with Remington Golden Bullet ammo. Accuracy was ok, but nothing to write home about.

I really like this gun, but I can see that some customization will be required.
Better sights, thicker grips, Wolff trigger spring, and polished chambers are on the menu.
By the time I finish with it, I'll still have less in it than a new one.

I've been sticking with CCI for both LR and mag in mine. Since I'm not a paper puncher I can't rate the accuracy of either except to say they both kill varmints just dandy, no duds so far, and they pretty much hit whatever I've been shooting at.

I'll echo Gaz's input.

Remington GB's 99.99% of the time. Federals if I run out.

For the .22LR cylinder? Whatever I feel like loading I guess works well enough. I haven't fired mine for extensive accuracy testing in .22LR. I have tried probably a dozen different types and Remington Golden Bullet is as good as any.

For .22 WMR, so far the most accurate has been Hornady V-Max or CCI V-Max. Most .22 WMR I've tried works very well in the accuracy department.

Best results are with CCI MiniMags. Haven't done anything yet with the .22 Mag cylinder.

Experiment with small quantities of different loads until you find the one the gun "likes" best. Some guns are "finicky," others not, even two consecutively produced ones.

Thanks for the replies. I only paid two bills for the gun, and was surprised by how old it was. I thought it was less than ten years old. It doesn't appear to have had much use.
I plan to use it for small game, plinking, and as an understudy for my .44 flattop.

CCI miniMags and MaxiMags

Really?
Why?

I use those for my Beretta Bobcat, just because it's sooo picky about ammo.
For my SA revolver I use the least expensive stuff I can find (Winchester Wild cat).

I'm thinking about trying CCI Green Tag in it.

I can get Winchester Wildcat 525 round bricks for about 20 bucks at Wally World.

I have another question. Can a .22 LR Single Six be made into a convertible, by having a .22 mag cylinder fitted to it?

mine shoots fed bulk pretty well for some reason

I find that Winchester Dynapoint 22 WMR is a good value in a 22 mag round. Not too expensive and is fairly accurate in my Single Six.

mine gets the remington golden most of the time. i also have some winchester and federal bulk. i have some wolf mt i'd like to try on paper, but haven't gotten around to it yet. i've also heard some good things about cci standard velocity, so i may pick up some of that to try in my single six and my rifles.

I've heard it being done, but I don't have personal experience with that.

I shoot mine nearly exclusively with the .22 WMR cylinder, and it likes the Winchester Supreme hollowpoints.

For the .22 LR cylinder, it works best with hyper velocity stuff. I have box of Federal Spitfire that I picked up somewhere that I save especially for this gun. Slower ammo produced less impressive results.

I have the 9.5"er for what it's worth.

The only problem I've had with 22lr is feeding and jamming in semi auto. I don't do extreme accuracy but hitting a soda can at 50 yards has never been a problem. Closer with handguns.....but that's just me.

American Eagle is very accurate in mine but if I'm just plinking Federal Bulk Pack works just fine.

Any one care to post pics of their groupings ?

such as federal bulk vs the pricey cci out of a convertible single six from a bench rest?

i doubt its worth the 50% price difference

Asking about other peoples' prefered rimfire loads is pointless, since each gun has its own preferences.
Try several in yours & see what works best.
Groups obtained by others will quite likely be different than what you'll get in your own Ruger.
Waste of time & effort to post photos of groups that may or may not apply to your situation. Won't tell you anything useful.

Single sixes aren't target revolvers and most shoot well with bulk ammo. Federal red box and Auto Match shoot very well from mine. Spending money on CCI green tag is probably not worth the expenditure.

I have three, each has different preferences.
