What is the maximum OAL for a .308 round to fit in an AR-10 magazine ?

Assuming you have the AR-10 and the ability to reload, why not check it for yourself?

If both of these things were true, do you think I would be asking ?

I believe it is dependent on the magazine and the rifle chamber.

I can tell you that for my Armalite AR 10 using Armalite magazines loading Sierra MK 168 grain HPBT bullets I load to the max OAL of 2.800" and that leaves a few thousandths of free space in my magazines. As mentioned, your mileage will vary depending on the rifle and magazines. That's the best I can tell you.
