What is a good price on a 586 with no dash number? Serial number ACJ07xx. 6" full lug. Looks like Adj. sights.

Can anyone tell me anything about this gun? Is it a 'desireable' 586?

Thanks very much,
Kel

There are no undesirable 586's.

Can somebody tell me what the selling point is on the 586's? I got to fire one today at the range that the guy next to me had. Compared to my father's 19-6 the trigger was much heavier, not nearly as smooth and the finish was not as good. It didn't point as well, the grips weren't as nice (and too big) and the sites left a little to be desired. Of course I didn't tell the other guy what I thought, but he sure liked my dad's model 19 :D

The L frames were a compromise introduced because folks wanted a 357 that handled like a K frame, but, offered the weight and durability of the N frame. The full length under barrel lug helps to dampen recoil. All else being equal, if you shoot a K frame and an L frame with full house loads, the K frame will need looking at before the L frame. A product warning was issued by S&W on 586's @ 87. IIRC, it dealt with the hammer nose/ firing pin bushing. If there is no "m" stamped near the SN, it hasn't been to the factory or a authorized warranty station. The SN you list puts it sometime between 81 and 86. HTH.

That helps alot. Thanks to all.

I found one with a price tag of 400. I thought that was a little much, but I wan't sure. Now I know. I will continue my hunt.

Thanks again.

Around here it will take a lot of looking to find one for less than $400. With shipping and transfer fees I paid that for one just like the one described (6" 586 dash nothing) and I could have easily paid $50 more if I bought it locally.
