A friend of mine game me her older S&W 38 special to clean and look over. I think it is a pretty old gun, I am just not sure how old it is. Does anyone know where I can look up the serial # and get an Idea on its age?

Thanks

Thomas

I use The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas.

The opening post refers to a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver. The company introduced the first one in 1899. Thereafter they have added numerous new models chambered to use the popular .38 Special cartridge. Regardless of what source you use you can't do anything without knowing what model you should look for, and its serial number. :banghead:

That may not help, but it sure can't hurt...
