Title says it all...

I got an RCBS lubing pad in an auction (the pad was just one item) but when I opened it up the thing was filthy..I flipped it to the other side and the same thing, FILTHY!!!

I was rubbing my thumb accross the pad and I was able to move alot of the grime off but I'm not planning on putting any clean brass onto this pad until I clean it....I dont wanna jam up my dies.

So, is there a special way to clean the pad or is it just ruined?

Thanks guys
Steve

FYI: the pad was only one item in the lot of reloading stuff I bought off ebay...

I've cleaned my RCBS lube pad a couple times with a rag wet with Odorless Mineral Spirits. Cleans up like new without any damage.

Three options:

E-mail RCBS tech service on how to clean it and they'll probably just send you a new one for free. Rock on, RCBS!

Mineral spirits as above.

RCBS Lube is water soluble, so a rinse and scrub in clean hot water will probably get most of the junk off, which is probably just case lube and dirt.

I just put mine into the sink and wash it with hot water and dish detergent and let air dry. After washing scrub out sink to keep the misses happy.

If it's mostly just dirt stuck on top, an old credit card or similar works well as a "scraper".

I tried the soapy water ,while it will clean it ,ya gotta dry it ! so I flod it with lube then scrape/wipe the grit/dirt away & when your done ya can go to work .

I used a lube pad for years, that was the way all the magazine/loading book 'experts' did it so it must be 'right', right? Then, some thirty years ago, I tried finger tip applied Imperial Die Wax and have never looked back. It's just as fast to apply, a lot cleaner and much easier to get off cases (and fingers) than the old oil stuff and I never get shoulder lube dents. My gritty lube pad went into the trash.

Toss it in the garbage
Go buy a new one---good for another 20 years---:):)

RCBS Lube is water soluble

Depends on how old it is. RCBS Case Lube 2 is water soluble, but the original stuff wasn't. I still have part of a bottle of it left over from the late 70's. I always used lighter fluid (petroleum naphtha) to remove it. Coleman fuel is the cheapest source of petnap I know of unless you can buy white gas on tap in your neck of the woods.

That pad might need water AND solvent to release all the gunk if it's really old.

I use warm water and soap.

I dry it in the dryer on fluff.

I also use mineral spirits on a rag. Just wipe and go back to reloading.

Toss in the trash and start using finger type lub/wax or the spray stuff.
