Looking for a scope for a new hunting rig. This is my first scoped centerfire so Im not gonna be reaching out.
Hunting at 100-300 yards.
Do I go full on and get a zeiss conquest 3-9x40? Or just stick with the leupold vx3 or something in that price range
Also- I am a Scopenewb but do plan on learning how to shoot, is it worthwhile to get a mildot reticle?

I have many scopes including the first one I got in 1953. I have been at this a long time.
I like the Zeiss Conquest and have a few. The go for less than $400 if you shop.
I have bought scopes from Cameraland. Get one of his Demo's at a low price.
Their regular Z plex crosshairs are excellent and in fact better than just about any other scope.

Demo Unit Price: $359.99
#20 Z-Plex Matte Black

Transferable Warranty.

I personally hate mil-dot reticules in a hunting scope. At the range you're talking about they offer exactly zero benefit.

I love the Mil Dot reticle and wish all of my scopes had it, but as you can see it's a personal preference. That said, the Zeiss Conquest is imo a great deal. I'd go with it in a heartbeat over the VX-3.

I am a leupold guy myself. I think for the money they are the best all around hunting scope's made. I, nor my family have ever regretted using them.

i don't like mil reticles in hunting/varmint or f-class style scopes. i prefer clean target dots and crosshairs.
but if you are also going to shoot anything practical, steel targets at unknown distance, etc, with the same rifle, then yeah, you'll really want a mil reticle.
