Saw tonights episode with Aerosmith's Joe Perry. All I have to say is:

AAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.

To paraphrase one scene. 'blackpowder is dangerous stuff. the static electricity from walking across a wool rug can set it off'

I couldn't stand to watch but a few episodes. Hackjob gunsmithing, pitiful customer service and if Will ever talked to me the way he talks to some of his employees, we'd have a problem.

**Just be careful with your wording. Apparently Will is secretly a member here and if you say anything derogatory about his daughter, her uh, honor, will be defended rigorously. Don't ask me how I know.

The daughter is shrill and dumb which would be easier to take if she were attractive...

but know that she is allegedly "gunsmithing" it is really bad.

BTW, none of her issues are her fault. But prancing her out there is like she is a queen is like presenting the mom of honey boo boo as Miss America.

Plus his bad dye job makes him look like the Joker SERIOUSLY gone to pot.

But they do get to play with nice toys!!!

I don't watch that show anymore. The gun safety isn't good at all, shooting fireballs in the shop and .410's with arrows stuck in the barrel is unsafe. Plus all the people that work there look like potheads with their baseball hats all flattened out and bend to the side, they use pothead terms too like "burnin" instead of smoking. I remember Kris saying "Will is out back burnin', Steph" and I busted up laughing.

Even though they get all the cool stuff like machine guns, silencers, etc. I feel as though it is giving the anti gunners like Brady, Fienstein, Billary Clinton, and the like more ammo to use against us.

About that .410 arrow launcher thing, I remember him saying BP doesn't burn at the high pressures that smokeless does. Not true, BP burns at the same pressure but with a slower pressure curve. It's like smacking a nail into a board with a hammer versus pushing it in.

Don't even get me started on Pawn Stars either. Rick Harrison has a successful TV show but still rips people off. Go in there selling a bird in hand, you'll come out with one in the bush.

Not to go on a whole rant here, its too early for that here.

To the OP,

We shouldn't blame the show for what a druggie-rocker says, other than feel sorry for them because they were too star-struck to correct him (If they knew. I doubt the "special" daughter did, but Hayden should have. Or maybe it was edited out)

I get a chuckle out of the show- if for nothing more than the silly stuff they say and the drama.

The show's atmosphere reminds of a local gunshop that I frequent just for entertainment's sake- non-stop uninformed bloviating and mis-information coupled with lots of self-important posturing and plenty of arrogance.

They get a lot of stuff wrong- like the BP gaffe- and seeing their antics confirmed for me after the first few shows that I wouldn't be doing business with them anytime soon- especially after watching his rather odd daughter "working" on some the guns. :uhoh:

I gave the show an trial run but all I see is things that look like a comedy show attempting to build things that were perfected years ago. I pretty much stopped watching when they got rid of Vince. To recap:

head honcho gives Chris a project.

Chris screws up the project. At the last minute, they dump it on Vince. Vince saves their azzes but makes a mistake in shipping. Vince gets crucified. They manage to recover and Chris, the guy who screwed the pooch, gets credit for Vince pulling the project out of the crapper.

What a hokey mess.

What bothers me is that I know that the people and the business were once real people but the "producers" of the show turn them into cartoons for entertainment sake that gun enthusiasts like us don't recognize.
For instance I have a friend that was "free styled" by the American Pickers. He was called a month before to ask his permission to be on the show. 20 guys showed up plus the two Pickers and spent the day shooting a segment that lasted less than 15 min.

I watch the show for laughs. Will reminds me of a guy I used to work with. Same look, attitude, and lack of manners. I still find it hilarious that when they deal with explosives they do the whole "we can't show you this" routine, but if you watch the episode on the internet and freeze it frame-by-frame the images and a bit of logic can tell you exactly what they used and how they did it. :neener:

If anything, I wish they did more with BP and antiques and less with machine guns. I know that's partly a "fox and the grapes" kind of thing - BP is accessible to me and legal machine guns really aren't. Wouldn't it be great if they did a show on taking a Pietta repro revolver and modifying the innards to do something special, or doing a high-dollar tuning job for a competition shooter? Or howabout a custom-built harmonica rifle that uses the block with multiple chambers like a removable magazine? Tons of cool inventive stuff they could be doing with BP alone!

Watching foul mouthed motorcycle assemblers throw temper tantrums, fisherman catch seafood, and truckers slide around on the ice so much before it's annoying.

HAY-NOW I love that show !! funny as hell !! and it is a great tool to show your kids what NOT to do , like when that take a gun they just built or rebuilt , and get ready to test fire it with 5 guys standing there, then break for a commercial , and your sitting there waiting to see if it is going to blow-up and kill all of them :banghead::banghead::banghead: this is where you look at your kids and say NEVER EVER DO THAT ! , check the gun over good , work the action , run some dumby round through it and then pop off an empty case with a live primer only , after you do all of that, then he who worked on it last, gets the live round and no one should be standing next to him when he shoots it ,
see what you could be teaching your kids , great show :barf::barf:

The one I thought was actually really good and miss was "Build or Bust". I hate the shows where a famous builder is building a car or bike for his client and is on a time crunch. Showing everything being done in a hurry. I don't know about you guys, but if I paid the high tariff to have Boyd Coddington build me a car, they better take their sweet time and do it right! What I liked about Build or Bust is that it was a regular bloke building a bike that he got to keep if he finished it on time. Now THAT is cool!

Now if we can get a show like that, only building custom guns, that would be awesome! :)

Got to remember guys its TV. I don't watch "The Big Bang Theory" to learn physics anymore than I watch the "gun" TV shows to learn anything about guns. The only thing that bothers me is the mistakes on these shows that become the gospel to uninformed people. To me the worst offender is the "American Guns" show, it is so unreal in the way they show gunsmiths and such that its truly bizarre. The way the owner is able to take a factory firearm that sells for $500.00 do a trigger job, cut a barrel, bolt on a couple of gizmo's and then price it for $2500.00 is outrageous. And the way they show the machining practices and test firing (hand held with no stock) is truly dangerous. Sons of Guns is just so overly scripted by the production company that it has become a parody. Yea and I do wish they would spend more time on real guns we can own rather than the machine guns, cannons and anti aircraft weapons. I have in my life shot most of these and have no further interest in them. And "black rifles" leave me cold. And just so you know I've been into guns, shooting, reloading and heck even wrote a handful of magazine articles about the subject for over 42 years now and still learn something new about the subject everyday. Right now re-reading "The Muzzleloading Cap Lock Rifle" by Roberts, a great read...sorry for rambling ;)

Reminds me of the folk in my trap club family. It seems like we are always arguing about whether Bakial is pronounced "baccy-all" or "bake-all" or with the .454 Casull it's either "Cuh-sool" or Cass-uhl" you know.

With Fiocchi it's either "fee-aw-chee" "fie-oh-chee" "Fee-oak-ee" and other dumb stuff like that. I've kinda been annoyed that my English friend Mark calls it a "point three- five- seven magnum" and not a "three- fifty -seven magnum" Or a "point two-two Long Rifle rimfire" Haha!

Then again I'm just as guilty. On Wednesday night I asked my mom if she could make us some roast beef with aw juss to dip em' in for dinner. I tend to pronounce things like an American! :D

I have not watched enough to know whether it is REALLY inbred theater or edited to look that way.

But one good thing about all of these shows is that it gets folks to the range and the gun stores.

I have seen more women at the range in the last year. And more kids.

We old guys are going to die off and we need a new generation to carry on. If it takes a gun comedy to do so, so be it.

I find it very, very difficult to believe that people are more interested in firearms and shooting sports because of those clowns. If that's truly the case, we really don't need those people; imagine your local range or hunting land populated by that kind of 'sportsman'.

I think this show actually causes people to turn away from hunting and the shooting sports. Who really wants to be associated with this kind of stuff?

I agree. Blowing stuff up is cool. But not when in shooting, unless actually caused by ammo. Anyone and rig to blow up something. Leave that for the pyrotecs. I just like my guns to look good and function. The riggin to blow is a selling gimick, and thats it. Let your gunsmithing skill do the talkin! Plus the owner will gets on my nerves. Baikal is By-call, like the lake.
Fiocchi is Fee-oak-ee. Double c followed by an h is pronounced as a K. Like Pinocchio.
Calibers are spoken as how many hundredths or thousandths of an inch they are.
Twenty two. Four forty four. Three fifty seven. Two twenty three. Three oh eight.

One that really bugs me is people calling a magazine a clip.

Since American gun came along, that was the final nail in the coffin for me watching any tv station operating under the mask of being educational in any way. Discovery, TLC, History (sometimes), Science, and others lack any educational value, and their channels should not be named as such.
That aside, I watched a grand total of about six or 7 minutes of an episode of Sons of Guns, and I could tolerate it no more. The other one, which I'm fairly sure is American gun, was so upsetting that I gave it almost 15 minutes, allowing myself to get out my thoughts on how stupid they are.

The best part of the show in my opinion is Tab Benoit's "Shelter Me" but that's pretty much it. That's what made me give the show a shot (no pun intended) in the first place is Tab Benoit and guns, but I don't really like that show all that much.

They did have a BP cannon, that was pretty cool I have to admit.

But shooting .410's with arrows jammed in the barrel isn't smart, nor is putting a tube of lipstick in the pistol grip of an AR-15 and painting it black and white. That really isn't my thing, of course if it gets girls and women shooting I'm for it.

How music moves foreward.
What i mean by that is that younger generation's music never really transcends, or, gets 'approved' by the older generation, but somehow the older generation's music allways eventualy appeals to the younger.

As has been stated somewhere once or twice in the previous three pages of posts, "There ain't much reality in reality TV."

My son-in-law works as a "Marine Co-ordinator" for the movie industry from time to time. A few weeks ago he calls me and tells me that he's working on a pilot for some reality scuba treasure hunting show that's filming in Arizona. As much as I love him, he's a little naive once in a while, he was very amused that all the "Treasure" that they were finding was actually placed there by the divers before they started shooting.

Regarding Pawn Stars, several years ago when we where staying in Vegas for a few days my wife wanted to go see the pawn shop. Turns out it's quite the tourist attraction nowadays. They were filming the Paul Revere Spoon segment while we were there and we watched take after take while Rick and the customer "negotiated". The most notable thing about going there was a few months later when the show aired we happened to watch it and found that they had done the post interview with the customer using my motorcycle as a backdrop.
