Local Walmart Ar's

Looking through the case at my local Walmart and saw this. Seems every time I go in there they have another in the case...anyone else seeing this trend? I honestly like to see this, as I think this will help the prices come down.

I picked up a "get ready for hunting season" flyer at Walmart tonight that had several ARs in it. None in the store but I am okay with baby steps towards more places selling firearms.

My local stores have Colt and a couple of other brands of ARs, and sometimes SIGs.

This has been a step in the positive direction IMO. Walmart usually offers the best pricing on these firearms. My local SuperWalmart has had Colt, Sig, Bushmaster, DPMS, and Smith&Wesson AR's along with the variety of other long guns.
It sure makes my ammo shopping experience a lot better!

In the Walmart flyer I picked up it shows 3 ARs: DPMS, SIG, and Colt. Only the Colt one has a bayonet lug as part of the A2 style front sight post. The rest have a small section of rail and no lug.

The Sunday paper here in the SE Cleveland, Ohio suburbs had the flyer. Unfortunately I don't know of a Walmart within a 100 mile radius that has guns around here. :(
Years ago all the guns in the Walmarts just seemed to go away and have yet to return. Matter of fact they offered a catalog to order handguns. The Walmart web site does mention that the guns are only available at locations licensed to sell guns so I guess licensing is on a store by store basis?
Anyway, I have yet to find a gun in a Walmart around here.

They USED to sell handguns, not all that long ago, but I doubt you'll see that happen again, except for maybe Alaska where, IIRC, they still do sell them

I bought a Bushmaster first of the week at Walmart. They were selling their last Colt AR, and I saw a Mossburg AR, DPMS, Sig, S&W 15-22, Ruger Mini 14, Scout, American, along with some tactical shotguns. My LGS don't have any Colt's or S&W's. Claims he can't get them. He has plenty od DPMS at a $150.00 higher than Wallyworld.

My WM HAD a Bushmaster AR, til someone bought it.
They're horrible with keeping consistent stock.

Just wondering (I am not an AR guy) what is the quality and value of these ARs? are the models considered good and the prices fair? would thise be a good option for a first AR?

My local WalMart has been selling AR's and other rifles and shotguns for years. Looks like its mostly Sig, DPMS, and Bushmaster stuff. Lots of magpul.

my local Wal-Mart has most of the aforementioned rifles, a few Rem and Mossy "tac" shotguns, and some tac accessories for ARs along with the usual fare of sporting arms. decent supply of ammo too.

Not true. I was in a local Walmart yesterday and their cases have shotguns in them. Nothing more than that yet but it is a step in the right direction. What they sell may also reflect the store manager's own political views on what to have in stock. There was also an actual associate working in the sporting goods section who actually asked if I needed help! :-O

My local Wally World has Colts, Sigs and Bushmaters. A couple are even already tacticooled out with forward grips, quadrails and MBUIS sights. It's cool to see them mixed in with the Savages, Remingtons and Winchesters.

I'd be careful on some of the wally world stuff. I don't know if they still do it but I know that on some of the rifles they use to sell that were priced under other retailers, were made for wally world and had some cheapened parts applied to get those lower prices. Biggest tell tale was the stocks and finish. Less quality and as long as you payed attention you could see it. Not that they were bad guns, but still if you think you're getting one thing and receive another it's a little deceptive and to a degree dishonest.

What you are describing is from many years ago, when large retailers would contract with gun makers for "store" brands. Montgomery Ward, Sears and a large hardware chain were all involved.
Now days, with the warranty going to the manufacturer, it would be a very foolish vendor who would deliberately earmark firearms for a specific chain to be made of less durable materials. :uhoh:

The Plymouth (closest to me) and Tilton (next closest) NH stores don't have firearm displays. Next closest with them is over 50 miles away from where I am.

Our WM is in the liberal town of Bellingham in the liberal state of Washington and their selection keeps changing. Today they had Colt, Windham flat top, Bushmaster, Sig M400 Enhanced, M&P 15/22 and a Sig 522. As well as various other regular long arms including a mini 14, Ruger American rifle etc. Good selection of ammo too though it is dwindling while waiting for restock.
Interesting that my brother lives in the relatively gun friendly state of Arizona but his WM gun selection is limited to airguns. Weird

I questioned a LGS by me about the ARs in Walmart. He explained to me that they were inferior made to meet a price point. Of course he then went on to have a conversation
with some other shoppers he apparently knew and spewed off some racist remarks that made me sad to have entered the doors of his shop.

Bayonet lugs are a funny thing. If it wasn't for the AWB calling them out by name, I suspect very few people would care. It's like the "It is the prohibition that makes anything precious" quote. In 2004, makers were cranking out and everyone was buying guns with bayonet lugs like nobody's business. 8 years later, there are fewer and fewer ARs with bayonet lugs. Why? Not because they are "neutered", not because of legislation, and not because they are trying to be "PC"; it's because it turns out that not many folks really care about them.
I suppose we are just lucky the AWB didn't mention rhinestone covered handguards. :)

ARs and accessories like Blackhawk rails here in TN. There's variability within the state as to whether there's a gun counter at all or one stocked with a variety AR selection.

Bayo lugs were tied to grenade launchers IIRC, so I think that's part of the reason...a stupid reason, but a reason nonetheless. It's..slighlty..lease silly when presented vs a fear somone going on a mass bayonetting spree.

Mine does too!! I was kinda shocked to see a .308 DPMS Sport Ar- (10) myself...at first I thought it was a price tag for a .308 rifle of some sort, then I HAD to take a closer look, I said screw it, walked behind the counter to take a real close look, sure enough there it was ... Same price $899...

My local Walmart has Colt, Sig, S&W and Windham ARs. They have for about half a year, but didn't think much about it until everyone started making a big deal on here about it. I'm one that's glad to see it! If people see these in the rack next to the trusty ole bolt actions and shotguns they are used to seeing, maybe it will help them see they aren't so evil after all!
Also, since handguns were mentioned, my local WM also has handguns in a catalog that you can order. It's a pretty basic selection, and they go for retail as far as I can tell. That's probably why the handgun thing never did so well.

Not a bad thing. I'm aware of stores that will not release a firearm unless they get a "proceed". That can be a bad thing. At least you can get your firearm eventually.

WW in AL and GA have had ARs for at least a year now. I have reached my limit on Black rifles so I have not really looked closely to see brands and calibers.
I have recently found that my local WW is very dependable as far as ammo goes which is a major change for them. Maybe they have a new manager that sees some potential in this Redneck part of the world where huntin'and fishin' are a part of most peoples lives. They have been carrying Tula .223, 7.62, 9mm and other calibers in addition to all the WWB, Remington, Federal, Hornady, etc that I expect to see. Academy normally carries more ammo but it is an extra 30 minutes so WW works best. My LGSs are usually way out of line on ammo.
I have never seen a handgun in WW.

I don't like big box stores so when I was told the local WM was stocking up the last 2-3 years we headed over there this past weekend, looking for a rifle for my daughter. Had to be 15 folks there all around one older women employee who knew more about guns then the people buying them. She was a comedian to say the least. Good women and knowledgeable.
After searching for the last few weeks we ended back their yesterday after school. Don't know if this is good or bad but their price on the Rem. Mod 700 in .243 was cheaper then most of the used ones we came across. It fit she liked we bought it.
The women there yesterday was ANTI-GUN and PROUD of it. There were 4 folks in front of me and she screwed up EVERY hunting license she issued. One older gentleman had a lifetime and she charged him $40.00. It took a phone call the the NCWRC only to find out his license would now only be handled thru the mail. This old man was flipping out. All while we waited.
She was the only one allowed to touch the guns and had the BIG key. It took us 1.5 hours to purchase a rifle, she ignored us, she had to call management to turn on the computer so we could fill out the 4473, then she insisted that my info had to be called in even though I have a CCW permit had to call management yet again. All while others waited. Then after all this management had to come over and the Serial numbers had to be read twice by two different managers. We then were escorted out of the store with management carrying the gun as if we were common criminals.
Don't know if it worth the headache of the money saved.
Oh when we left the old man was still complaining about his hunting license.

Don't expect good service from WW unless you just live for disappointment. Their highly trained and motivated employees are legendary. I am routinely shocked by how little some of them care about their jobs though I know it should not be a surprise.
