How about some good pictures? Is there a number on the bottom of the grip? Those numbers seem too low to be a square butt.

Was the serial 7474 taken off the butt or from the cylinder cut out?
If from the butt, and with no accompanying letter, it should be a .38 Military & Police 1st Model manufactured between 1899 & 19022 in the serial range 1 to 20975.
If taken from the cylinder yoke cut it may be an assembly number, used to track parts in the factory and not a serial number. Check the butt to see if it matches.
The number under the barrel should match the number on the butt, unless the gun has been rebarreled in the past.
If the number on the butt is 10094 then it is still a 1st model.
