Anyone have drawings/dimensions for M14/M1A barrels?
Specifically the location of the gas port, op rod guide, and cuts for the front sight assembly?

If I ever get my money saved up I'd like to chamber one in .260 Rem. I'd love to try it. I know that I'd need an adjustable gas port.

It's quite possible that the information can be found in Kuhnhausen book, but I wont have access to one for a few days And I'd love to have peoples' input on the challenges associated with the machining of these barrels.

I have the Kuhnhausen books at home and believe they cover what you are asking but not sure. I have a M1 Garand I built years ago as part of an NRA course I took that I chambered in 7mm-08 Remington. Really a nice shooting rifle. I'll check the Kuhnhausen book when I get home and let you know.

This 9 page PDF should help as it contains barrel drawings. (http://www.weaponeer.net/uploads/files/22208/M1_Garand_Receiver_&_Barrel_Blueprints_.pdf)

Yes, Kuhnhausen's "The U.S. .30 Caliber Gas Operated Service Rifles, A Shop Manual, Volumes 1&2" on page 95 gives the barrel dimensions for a M1 Garand barrel. Additionally, there is a good section on rebarreling the rifle. Page 267 covers the M1A/M14 barrel dimensions.

It is possible that Krieger could make you one. I know they do standard M-1A barrels.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I went to the school library during lunch and looked at the technical drawings and kuhnhaisen manual. Now I just need funds :(

As I responded to a similar question a few minutes ago, enough pictures of Ben Frankliln will get you anything.

Yeah, that's true. I only wish this was like "building" an AR: $100-$150 every pay check.
