What to buy?

Ok this should be fun as a rule every year I buy a gun when I get my tax return. Now I'm at a loss for what to buy this coming year as I've already owned just about everything. So what I want are suggestions on any rifles, shotguns, or handguns that I should get. My only requirements are
1. Keep it $1500 or less
2. No glocks already been there
3. If AR-15 be specific not just AR
4. The bigger the better
5. I reload so ammo cost is not a factor.
I tend to lean towards oddities that you don't see often, and bigbore rifles and handguns. I've noticed over the past few months that I can spend hours browsing a gun store and not see anything I want, because theres never anything out of the ordinary.

Some ideas:
-target .22 pistol. Nothing tests your accuracy like shooting bullseye.
-S&W 952 or Sig-210; both are wonderful 9mm SA pistols. I have seen used 952's for around your budget.
-dedicated 9mm AR. There are lowers out that are shaped for the 9mm mags and a variety of uppers available. Could be a lot of fun and way cheaper than .223 (and even if you reload, easier to reload 9mm).

To start with, get yourself a Thompson Contender or Encore pistol in 45/70.If you like big, that will be big and very accurate. You might even want a good spotting scope to go with that because it's a 150 yard deer, bear,or zombie killer.Use open sights, you won't tend to shake so much.:D

.....Right now I am on the 1911 train....
Do you have any 1911's? If so, which ones and are you interested in another?

There my absolute favorite handgun, and are IMO the best handgun ever made. But for some reason I always lose interest and trade them away along with just about anything else. Oddities, rare finds, sxs shotguns, and big bore rifles I tend to keep. I really need to learn to stop being a habitual gun trader.

There is always class III firearms. Save for a few yrs, get the tax stamp, then buy a Ma-Deuce! (my personal dream is an old M-60)
Or you could just buy a regular shotgun, get the stamp, and turn it into a boom stick.
And of course there is always supressors / cans.

It's a bit over your range, but I saw one for $1750 online if you can go a bit over, and it's off the charts for cool. http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/scheda-prodotto.asp/l_en/idpr_210/rifles-1874-sharps-rifle-1874-sharps-quigley-sporting.html

This fits your budget and still fulfills all the requirement, I think. http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/scheda-prodotto.asp/l_en/idpr_205/rifles-1874-sharps-rifle-1874-sharps-cavalry-carbine.html

I think I could go over budget for a quigley sharps, and I'd have to go .45-120.

Ruger No. 1 in .458 lott is looking good to me as well, at $975+ tax from my lgs that leaves alot of room for dies, brass, bullets, and powder.

My path has led me to old guns. 1903's, Enfields, Mausers, Carcanos, K-31's, and Jap Arisaka's among other things. They are an interesting bit of history, fun to shoot, and reloading makes it easier.

If you like big, go with the Marlin 1895MXLR in .450 Marlin. You can hunt anything on the planet with it, including cape buffalo, elephant and up-armored polar bears. Under $700 leaving pleanty of room for reloading supplies and optic of choice.

If you like the big bores and like AR's too why not go with a .458 socom. Same ballistics as the 45-70 but in a nice little AR package. Even uses same mags as the AR15. Can get a RRA for about $1430. Just have to save a bit back for ammo or reloading components.

Have you tried out an M-1 Garand?
If it has ever "grabbed you", you must already be familiar with the CMP, and the popular value of a Service Grade rifle.
Your extra cash could buy quite a bit of M2 Ball ammo or reloading components. Joining the GCA for about $30 might qualify you.

Find a good Colt New Service in 38-40. I know someone in a situation similar to yours who got one and has been tickled with it.

If you get a Schuetzen rifle, you'll save a whole bunch of money through reloading. You know you want one.

If you don't have an AR you might consider getting one. Colt's 6920 and Competition rifles can be had for under that price point.
As far as the unusual. HK P7's are one of the neatest gee-whiz pistols available. There have been a number of police trades coming on the market lately as well as factory re-furbs.

Couple range trips ago a guy in the next lane had an AR in .50 Beowulf. I'm not really an AR guy but holy mother o' pearl this thing was awesome! He wasn't saving his brass so I snagged a few. You can see the awesomeness dripping off of it. It's a beast.:what:

Well if you want a fine rifle Wideners has K31's available. They are real accurate in spite of the shooter. Kimber has a sexy little number called the Sapphire you may like but if you really want to go big then find yourself a S&W model 57 or model 58 in 41 mag. Most stay away from such a gun but I follow the simple rule of "go big or stay home". Of course if you can find one I would suggest a S&W Model 610. Nothing like having a 10MM revolver. Another suggestion is a Ruger carbine in 44 mag. Now thats a fun weapon to shoot.

If you are looking for something different, how about these ideas?
Not quite clear on if you have or had an AR15 already. If so, you might consider an AR10 in .308. Armalite has a couple models that run around $1500.
If you want something big, what about a Sharps single shot? Cimarron and Pedersoli make them in your price range in various .45 and .50 caliber black powder cartridges.
Even bigger? How about a .62 caliber Northwest Trade Gun or French Fusil? These are smoothbore flintlock muzzleloaders that can be used with either balls or shot. Track of the Wolf and North Star West make high quality reproductions that run around $1300-1500.

I've been thinking about an ar-10 for a couple of years now, and I just may have to pursue that interest.

Hmmm.... just found out I can get the basic parkerized/wood stocked M1A for about $1400. I might have to get me one. Of course then theres the issue of finding my brass, one of the few downfalls of a semi auto.

My first thought, Saiga-12. Like an AR there are plenty of modifications to do to it as well. I just picked one up and they're very fun.
I've also had my eye on a VEPR but in a 7.62x54r :)
The idea of a 45-70 revolver that was mentioned is a good one too and on my list.

A .22 lr pistol that is more accurate out of the box than most of us ever will be. It's a gun that is so nice it's sure to be a family heirloom.

4" S&W 500 should unique enough to turn heads.
I'm in the same boat... Last couple weeks I went to 5 LGS's and around the same number of Pawn Shops... Everything was same ol same ol. Nothing really tugged at me. So I perused forums and gunbroker till I found two pistols needing homes, and to think I was looking for a new autoloader 12 or 20g.
So I'm waiting for a S&W 1006 and Beretta 92 Compact Type M to hit my FFL's door step.

After giving it some serious thought I figure it I wait till I have cash in hand and hit the three lgs' plus bass pro shops I can probably find something interesting in my price range. A guy that frequents my lgs has offered me his pre 64 model 70 in .375 H&H with a bausch & lomb balvor 2.5-8 scope for $1,000, it's in excellant shape and he says he's just to old to shoot it. He doesn't actually have it for sale but has offered it to me so I'll definately be considering that one.

If you're anything like me, lately I have had a craving for either a Classic S&W 686 or 29 or a Colt Python or Anaconda. I believe they represent the absolute best in quintessential American Workmanship in that they are genuine works of art that pack an unparalleled punch. The Smith's can still be had NIB from the factory for <$1500 but the Colt's cannot and must be found via gunbroker or the like.
