Polish P-64 followed me home today.

Saw it in the case for $180.
Couldn't pass it up.

I have one. Not super comfortable to shoot for too long, but very well made, well suited to its task, and kinda classy in a com bloc way

Very heavy for the power level by todays standards (Kahr, Kel-Tec, SIG 938, LCP, etc.) but the price is right for sure. The DA trigger is so heavy its hard to hit anything with the first shot, but it can be improved with a Wolfe spring kit.

It has a de-cocker, but the DA trigger pull is like 24lbs!
It's small enough to CC and a 9x18 is at least as good as any .380 and it's significantly cheaper than just about anything else besides other 9x18 com bloc surplus guns.

You're going to love it, they work well with the ClipDraw.

A friend and I got a couple of these about a year ago. He had trouble with his. I took it and cleaned it up for him and took it out shooting today. 14 shots, 7 SA, 7 DA @ 7 yards. It functions fine. It kicks pretty hard, has very small hard to see sights, but the single action trigger pull is light and crisp. The double action is fairly smooth, but very, VERY heavy. This was basically a function test, but I thought it shot pretty good, for what it is. I like mine, actually considered using it for a carry pistol.

The DA was so heavy on mine I thought it was broken, actually was scared to try any harder in case I forced something and made it worse, cocked, ~2.5#, so yeah, the DA is just crazy monkey heavy, otherwise a very nice pistol with a target trigger.

Realize it isn't drop safe with the hammer down and safety off, as the safety rotates to block the hammer (also a problem as the safety is the most likely part to be broken due to being hit by the hammer repeatedly)

I put aftermarket springs in mine and the DA is acceptable. The SA has always been ok. It's the most abusive firearm I've ever shot and that includes the 4 inch 44 Magnum. However, it's what I carry when I can't carry my Glock 32. To my knowledge, it has the most firepower in any firearm its size. It's smooth and rounded surfaces don't snag.

Yeah... I'm probably not going to modify it. When it comes to military surplus I'm a purist.
It's not going to be a carry piece anyway, just a range toy and collector piece as I had recently decided to try to get all of the com bloc handguns, preferably while they're still cheap.

They're great guns but for me it wasn't super comfortable to shoot. One of the only guns that actually left bruises in the web of my hand after 50 rounds.

Ouch. I've got big hands, and I got one serious case of slide bite after my first outing. I still have mine though.

The crazy thing is that this pistol was issued as a primary sidearm. Seems much better fitted for backup gun or deep cover.

I like mine but it's heavy for a pocket, the double action trigger is quite stiff, gotta be careful with hammer and slide bite.

There are better options in modern guns. You can get a 9mm for the same size and less weight that will be more comfortable to shoot.

I do think it's a cool gun, very well made, good looking, a great price...I paid $160 for mine.

One of my favorite CCW's. And yes, the safety is also a decocker. But the catch 22 is they're not dropsafe. If carried hammer down, safety off, they are known to fire if dropped on the hammer from any significant height. As in, "I was putting it back in the safe and dropped it, and it fired a bullet through the ceiling a foot away from my head." The only thing preventing this AD is something akin to a half cock notch except you can't bypass it. It's actually more like a zero cock notch, leaving a dangerous gap between the hammer and floating (for no reason) firing pin when the hammer is at rest, and it's not sturdy enough to be safe from a drop. So if I was lefty, I wouldn't own this gun, at all, seeing as the manual safety is not ambidextrous.

I've converted mine to safety, only, for this reason.* The manual safety actually blocks the firing pin and the hammer, which makes cocked and locked safer than decocked and unlocked, IMO. But as "impressive" as it is when new, the DA trigger really isn't that bad after you break it in.

FTR, they come in 2 different finishes. Some are blued, some are plum brown. And two different hammer styles. Mid 70's they switched to a hammer with a triangular spur instead of the round.

They are very accurate. Honestly they're one of the most accurate surplus guns I've ever owned.

The Marschal grips cured all shooter pain issues for me. The Wolff spring kit made DA usable for me. I can actually HIT things in DA now. :D These things are very accurate. I get James Bondenski songs like "Live and Let Die" in my head when I handle mine. :D

Next best thing to a Walther PPK. But for a lot less money. In my tests the makarov round is just a wee bit weaker than a 9mm Luger but way better than a 380.

Wow, sweet buy for $180. I really like the wood grips Kiln posted. A 24# DA trigger seems like it would take a lot of getting use to, though.

I've chronographed 'em. I'll take a 115 grain XTP JHP at 1263 fps vs a 94 grain JHP (silver bear, probably won't expand from what I hear) at something shy of 1100 fps any day and twice on Sunday. That, and 11 rounds of firepower, and near equal accuracy and 14 unloaded ounces in my pocket, is why I prefer My Kel Tec for carry. Don't mean I don't like the little P64, just believe 9x19 is far superior in power and the gun I have is lighter and carries near twice the firepower. I've been toting that Kel Tec for 16 years and haven't found anything that I prefer to it. It's got a 5 figure round count and is as reliable as the little P64, meaning I've not had a jam with either when feeding preferred ammo. The KT has a dislike for 147 grains, but eats 116ers like candy.

Yeah, the 9x18 is superior to the .380, but there ARE some .380s that can keep up with it sold by Buffalo Bore. However, I wouldn't feed that stuff in an LCP type gun, myself, might be a little rough on it. There is no +P SAAMI rating for .380 and these rounds just HAVE to exceed SAAMI pressures to get what BB advertizes for 'em.

I compare 9x18 to .38 special in a snubby, but I shoot a 158 grain HP in my snubby, so again, advantage snubby. :D

Regardless, I think the 9x18 is fully capable as a self defense round, but I don't get carried away about its supposed superior power to the .380, not THAT much difference.

One thing about the P64, too, I hope it never breaks 'cause I don't like my odds at finding parts for it. Seems very well made, though. It's a neat little pistol and I love shooting the thing with cheap Monarch FMJ ammo 9.95 a box from Academy. :D

I know it was issued as a primary sidearm, but I refuse to believe it was designed as such. They took a Walther pp, not a big gun to start with, and.... Chopped the grip, chopped the barrel, rounded off all edges, and installed low profile sights. That sound like how to design a gun meant for OC to you? Lol
