At first I was thinking it would be some massively clunky single shot gun, but then it occurred to me all anyone would need to make is an AR receiver and order yourself a parts kit and you have yourself a "home made" AR.

Might be good for a "proof of concept" on a part but I don't think it's feasible for making a gun.

Lot of stuff floating around on this... I have thought about this a lot lately. What it comes down to, in my opinion is that you could do all of the parts that are usually low stress parts or things that are already polymer or plastic on the 3D. You would still need parts kits, spings, barrels etc. I wouldn't trust the metal parts even on the expensive machines that can do alloys and titanium.

i have a 3d printed AR lower i made......3d printed plastics are surprisingly strong. while i most likely wouldnt put a 5.56 upper on it, i feel it would support a .22 upper with no problem.

I'm with you SlowFuse, plastic springs just don't sound good nor does a poly barrel.

M-Cameron, I don't think there's much strain on the receiver it's self. I have a New Frontier poly lower if that has a 5.56 upper on it. I'm unsure of what type of plastic it is, but I bet that there is a printer out there that can make one just as strong as my injection molded one.

Also what is the law with a home made firearms? Can they cross state lines? Do you have to engrave anything on them?
