In a quandry...

I currently have the overwhelming urge to purchase a new firearm to celebrate a new career, but i am at a loss as to what to get. I feel like i have most "needs" covered.
Handguns
M&P 9c
Springfield R.O.
S&W 422
Ruger P90
Rifles
Marlin 30-30
.303 British
Marlin model 60
Shotguns
Browning Sweet 16
Cheapo Mossberg 20 guage.
I have been back and forth a million times. Sometimes i think about a small frame revolver for ccw, but im not a huge fan of dao. Then i think maybe an ar, but i just dont shoot rifles that often. Maybe customize a ruger mk? Customize a 10-22? Some form of compact 1911? Another ccw? Revolver? IM SO CONFUSED!!! What would you guys and gals do?

I'd build an SBR AR-15 in 300 BLK that looks like a XM177 but since you're not a rifle shooter, why not start with a bare receiver and build a 1911 up yourself if you have the skill/time?

New job present to yourself? I went through this in January when my last check came from my previous company. I wanted to get a Springer TRP but of course, the one time I go in there with money it's gone! Picked up my kimber procarry II and I've never looked back.
I'm not a 1911 fanboy, but after buying one I fear that I may be becomming one. 1911 is my "pretty" pistol and ALWAYS follows me to the range or is my "show off" gun when people come to my house and inquire about my gun collection. There's just something about them.
If you are more of a revolver person, there is merit in getting a pretty revolver too.
1858's are also nice for a "new job" gun.
IMO, stick with pistols. Get one that you like because you like it and not because it's a need. Celebrations call for spoiling yourself a little bit, not trying to round out a collection. Get a "toy."

Geckgo im with you on the 1911. My R.O. is probably my favorite. That is why i have considered a compact 1911. I prefer iwb so i lean towards a 3 inch-ish barrel, but i think the most common thing you hear is, "stay away from anything shorter than a commander."

It depends on what the new career is. What are you going to be doing and mayby, just maybe, we can come up with some specific suggestions. Otherwise, a Biathlon Basic 7-2. http://www.gunblast.com/RAA-Biathlon.htm There is plenty of info on them if you google other sources. RFC has a forum for them.

Your list and from what you've said about not shooting rifles that much leaves two options in my mind.
A 1911 built specifically for you.
A Sporting Clays/Skeet gun; A REALLY nice auto or an O/U for somewhere in the 3k range.

If it were me, I would feel the need for a very accurate rimfire bolt gun. .17hmr comes to mind.

I see no .357 on that list. If it were me (and two weeks ago, it was!) I would go with a stellar .357, unfortunately (depends on point-of-view), a week after I got my GP100, I found a good deal on a S&W 686 SSR, so now I have two 4" .357s. What a conundrum. Darn.
:D
And let me say, congratulations on the new job! Maybe even more, though, congratulations on the understanding wife!

Don't get another ccw gun. That's a work gun and not a celebration gun.
A celebration gun would be like a 454 casul , or a S&W 500.
Although customizing a 10/22 or a mark II/III has very pleasing results. A 1911 would also make a good celebration gun as long as it's not like a Rock Island or something. Not slamming R.I. just saying, your celebrating, go big.
In all honesty you'll have the most fun with a customized 10/22. I have one that I put a tactical solutions 16" barrel,Boyd thumb hole stock, and just a little 2x tactical scope on. With the 25 rd magazine,or even the 10 rd, it is a absolute joy to shoot and with the 10/22 there is multiple other directions you can go in.
Now also to consider, If you want a big celebration, get the Barret 50.

I'd say a fun gun, like a really nice .22 handgun. I'm in this situation myself and will reward myself with a 4 inch S&W 617 as soon as I can find one locally.

.22 pistol and/or rifle. Ruger Mark or 22/45, 10/22, Buckmark just a few that come to mind.
Good luck and stay safe,

Of what you have, what do you enjoy shooting the most?

The .303 is great; however, you don't have a proper battle rifle by modern standards. A BIG step up would be an M1 Garand... and to take another BIG step further, M1A, FAL, HK91/PTR91, AR10/LR308, etc...
If you don't want to go the full-power route, an AR-15, AK-47, AK-74, SKS, Mini-14, etc... would suffice.
Also, I'm not sure if you carry a back-up in the pocket (Smith 442 would be a tough sell for pocket carry to most people), but that could be a beneficial purchase, too.
Lastly, if you haven't transformed your Marlin 60 into a Liberty Training Rifle, then you should at least consider it! :)

Jacob2745;
It's your choice, of course, but you asked the question. I'm also going to advocate a good bolt action .22 rimfire rifle. Depending on the amount of celebrating you want to do, there are choices. A: A CZ452 in one of the several choices. B: One of the Anschutz target guns. C: A Cooper Jackson squirrel rifle. I have several of the CZ's & can produce 50 yard one-hole 5-shot groups upon occasion.
Here's some reasons to think about the quality .22 bolt gun. Very few ranges will deny one. They are among some of the most highly developed guns on the market, .22 target guns are incredibly accurate. When you're shooting, there are both mental and physical regimens you will have to master if you're going to be able to shoot to the gun's level. Those translate into the real world, believe it or not.
If you want to find out the parameters of the madness, just go over to Rimfire Central & look around, the CZ section is particularly active.

Buy whatever trips your trigger, after all you will be shopping for you.
While I have no clue what you plan to spend I liked the suggestions of a .22 bolt action rifle but I have a long time love affair with older .22 rifles. Then too, you do mention you don't shoot much rifle.
I also liked the .357 suggestion but I also like older revolvers so again that is just me.
Heck, if I were you I would buy a press and get started rolling your own. Then you can feed the family you already have. :)

I like the post that referenced the S&W 500 Magnum as a celebratory gun purchase!! Heck yes. Fireballs, explosions, extremely loud, recoil that can induce seeing stars (fireworks). I love mine and endorse the recommendation.

I agree with everyone who says it should be a fun gun to celebrate your new job with. To me a fun gun is a .22; my two favorites are a semi-customized 10/22 and a Ruger Mk.II with a 5.5" bull barrel. Both are very accurate, inexpensive to shoot, and are extremely reliable.

I can only speak for what I would do. There is little question that I would buy a 22 rimfire pistol or revolver depending on which type you tend to like better. The new Ruger SR22 is a nice little pistol and fun to shoot, as are the Mark II/III (5.5" bull barrel) or 22/45 (5" bull barrel) models. I prefer the heavy barreled more target oriented choices on the latter.

You have a nice 1911, now you need a nice Browning Hi Power. They go together. It's a natural.

In your shoes, I'd go for a Ruger New Model Bearcat. It's a cute lil bigger, a grown-up's fidget toy/ cowboy cap gun. I want one. I'm sure my fingers would wear out long before the gun, too.

Hso - i would have to say one of the handguns. Probably the r.o. but it is a little expensive to enjoy too much.
With everyones help i believe i have made a little progress.
Ruger mk and make it my own.
A quality single shot .22.
Another 1911.

I was gonna say a Mosin Nagant cause you don't have any but you mentioned not shooting rifles much. That puts my vote into a nicely customized .22 (either bolt, or semi, or hand gun) or if you've got deep pockets for this 'gift' then a nice customized 1911 is hard to beat. I've always wanted to attend a class where you build your own custom 1911 from a kit (saw it advertised on a gun show), it's not just assembly either you are milling trimming and honing all the parts to custom fit.
Best of luck with your choice.

The two guns I personally get the most use out of are my 12 gauge and my 10/22...which would be where I'd look. A nice .22 target pistol or customized rifle or a 12 ga. might be nice
