Ruger SR22! What a blast!

Just had to share my excitement. Put about 400 rounds through it yesterday and it was awesome. Ran flawless with cci mini mags, and had a dozen ftf with the Winchester 333 box. My 10/22 has more trouble with the Winchester than this little pistol did. I went with the SR since it resembled more of a regular defense pistol than its brother, the mkIII. I had more fun shooting this than any other calibers I own! Just wish the mags held a few more rounds.

Small .22 pistols are lots of fun. The best things are they are cheap to shoot and very easy to carry. I use my p22 way more than my Buckmark Bullseye, or any other pistol. It can't hit t-posts all day like the Bullseye, but it works well enough for small game and metal spinners. Just ignore the few people that have problems with the SR(or worse, hear about) who tell you it's not as good as other .22s, and enjoy it. You may be able to mod the mags to hold a few more rounds. The bottom of the p22 follower can be cut down so it holds more rounds, but you lose last round slide catch.

My friend just bought one. It is a blast to shoot. Not a tack driver, but fairly accurate. So much fun, that the wife was wondering about the grin I was wearing when I got home.

Yes I have one purchased about two months ago.

I shoot the heck out of it every time I go to the range which is about once a week.

It functions flawlessly with all the brands I have used and I really have been enjoying it.

I had a P22 that I consider a piece of junk next to the SR22.

Nice gun. I was considering buying one of these but I really wish they had made the operation more like the SR-9/40. I may end up going with the M&P .22 instead.

I'd like to try one. I have a MkII and it's not going anywhere. Though I am thinking about selling a couple other pistols to get an SR22 & SR9.

I love mine! Not as accurate as the 22/45 but it not supposed to be. I haven't found any ammo it won't eat.

The only complaint I can think of thus far would be the trigger reset. Once the feel the reset, there is considerable slack to take up.

I do like the look/feel of the Sig Mosquito, but I've heard there were reliability problems with them.

I've had good luck with my SR22. It's clear Ruger put in the effort to offer a pistol that's durable, reliable, fun and a good value. I appreciate that they include a spare magazine, as that's a place where a lot of other makers cut corners.

Got the SR-22 about 3 months ago, it runs perfectly and is what I'd call a good accuracy plinker. It's not ever going to be a target pistol, but it's fun to shoot, seems well made, I like mine a lot.

At the risk of hijacking my own thread.....

Do you guys feel these 22's are good for training? I've heard this, but the recoil is so minimal. How can it really compare to a 9,40,45?

I shoot the SR22 1st but always finish with a larger caliber which is usually a 9mm.

I liked my first SR22 so much I bought a second one.

One is equipped for low light laser practice with a Crimson Trace rail laser. The other has a rail light.

I have a backyard range where I shoot low light/dark laser/light practice 4-5 times a week.
The SR22's have gone through quite a few 22LR Wal Mart bulk packs.


Everyone that shoots the gun likes it. A few weeks ago a lady shot my SR22 in the morning and bought one that afternoon.

I ran some hp's through my G27 after shooting my sr22 and the difference was crazy. I have trouble seeing the 22 as a good trainer, when recoil isn't even in the same ballpark

I've got around 4000 rounds through mine and its been a real gem. Will cycle just about anything (except winchester) and is accurate enough to be a lot of fun. Regardless of what I take to the range on any given day, the SR22 usually comes along.

22lr allows me to do a lot of shooting without going broke and it works very well for practicing bringing the sights on target and pointing the pistol.

By ending my shooting sessions with a larger caliber I walk away with the feel of heavier recoil and that's what's left in my muscle memory.

My friend just bought one as his first handgun. IMO he could not have made a better choice. He probably has about 700 rounds through it so far and this was a guy that was deathly afraid of guns not too long ago. I've fired it about 70 times and it is a fun little piece. Another home run for Ruger.
The safety is kinda odd but easy enough to deal with. After the first 100 or so rounds through it it has been totally reliable.

In my case, the SR-22 is a perfect trainer for the "house gun", S&W Model 59 (yeah, I'm old school). DA/SA with a decocker safety.

In general, I also think .22lr is great for training, all the principles of grip, stance, sight alignment, safe handling, etc. are the same. There is an obvious difference in handling recoil, but you can do a lot of very valid training at a fraction of the cost

I love mine... It has feed everything I have put in it.

The only problem I have found is that it does not like unplated pure lead rounds. Even the better ones like the Blazer. It gets very bad leading after only a couple mags worth.

I am thinking now that I have put about 1000rds of plated through it, to try the lead again. Maybe it lapped the barrel enough that it will not lead up.

We've got almost 1k rounds thru the ole SR22 it's been a great little pistol so far.

It's been a great shooter with 6 different types of ammo so far.

No other sr22 owners out there? I would like to hear from others experience if you own one!

Not an owner but I have shot the range rental and it's indeed quite sweet. It reminds me a great deal of the Walther .22lr model.

I decided to go the 1911-22 route (mostly to keep up my 1911 skills @<$) so I bought a GSG 1911-22.

I'm sure that SR will not let you down (I have a few Ruger products and wouldn't hesitate to add more).

Heck. I find shooting a .22 can really help someone overcome recoil anticipation/flinching.

I have a Kimber .22 upper for my 1911.

My wife has rented the SR22 a few times, and loves it. She has small hands, and its very easy for her to operate the slide/etc. May get her one for xmas.

Now that's the Christmas Spirit! Would love to see one under my tree (or any Ruger, Smith, SIG, Colt, Taurus, Browning etc. as I am not picky Santa ;)!
