Brand new XDs report

Sat. I made a trip to a gun store to get some reloading supplies. While I was there I asked the salesman if he had any of the XDs's. He showed me one, we talked price and I bought it. I also brought home a box of Blazer Brass 230gr. RN ammo.

Today was the first chance I've had to shoot it. The very first round I tried to chamber, wouldn't go in. I dropped the mag, and racked the slide turning it into a stovepipe, then finally it dropped out. I replaced the round in the mag and racked it again and it chambered without incident. I can't really say if it was my fault or the pistols fault, but if I was a betting man I would bet it wasn't the gun. ;)

From then on, it was nothing but fun. Easy trigger, good sight picture, bright front site, unexpectedly low recoil, and best of all, it hits where you point it. I read a post somewhere (may have been here) that the shooter had his hand torn up by the checkering on the grip. Thinking there may be something to that, I wore a pair of shooting gloves. After 10 rounds I took them off as they were not needed for anything. After about 5 rounds I was putting the holes in about a 3" circle from about 25'. I expect my accuracy to improve as I get used to it.

I thoroughly enjoyed shooting it, and as soon as I put enough rounds through it, I'll make it my carry gun. I also have an XD40SC that is also a favorite shooter, but it's a little too heavy and bulky for me to conceal easily. So this one will replace my Kel Tec PF-9 eventually as my carry gun.

So I can unequivocally give it a "Buy it" recommendation after only 50 rounds. That may be premature, but I doubt it. :D:D:D

Love mine. It is my primary carry gun now. Enjoy!

With a lot of those smaller guns you have to make sure you rack the slide all the way back and let it go. Can't baby the slide closed or it can jam. I saw it happen to a friend a few times with an LC9 and it's a commonly discussed issue on the XD forum. Hell I think Springfield themselves recommends you lock the slide back and drop it using the slide stop button. Overall not a big deal.

How does the trigger and recoil compare to your XD40SC? Asking as I'm interested in the XDs and I used to have an XD40 back in the day lol.

As much as I like my Taurus PT111 (I've had it for 13 years), I'm going to replace it as an EDC piece with an XD9 or an SR9. I really like those two pistols. Thought about the compact versions, but I really like the commander/Sig/G19 size.

The trigger is similar in travel, breaking point, and weight required to my .40. Recoil was one thing I was really impressed with. It was less that my .40 with absolutely no hand punishment at all. It's small enough to conceal easily, not too heavy loaded, and I could shoot it all day if I had enough ammo stocked up. I just ordered dies and bullets today, now I need to round up some brass, then let the press handle fly.
