I recently bought a Stevens Model 72, octagon barrel, Stevens Model 72 stamped on the barrel, the receiver does not have the case hardening color though and has an engraving of a squirrel on an oak limb on each side of the receiver...was in pretty good shape, Shoots great, just have not found an example or description of a Model 72 without the case hardened receiver and an engraving...anybody out there know anything about it?

Lets see a picture of it, is it a newer or older one, here is a pic. of mine, it has a round barrel. I don`t think the receiver on mine looks like it is case hardened ither & mine is a take-down model.

Got one in early 1970s. Stolen in 1985. Bought another. Good shooting little rifle despite rudimentary sights. Can't scope it. Great fun.
