$550
I should go for this right away, right? Anything I should be aware of or cautious of? I mean I know it's not the exact model from Dirty Harry (no pined barrel)....but I don't think I'll be stumbling around a Model 29 of any variation for this price anytime soon.

Whats Dirty Harry got to do with it?

If you want a Buntline Model 29?

Buy it now.
They ain't getting any cheaper in that condition.

No wait!
Whats Ned Buntline got to do with it either??

That is about $100 less than I often see them priced at...fair priced, but not a steal, IMO.

For the record, Detective Callahan's .44 had a 6.5" barrel.

There was/is a rumor they used the 8 3/8" barreled version when the bank robber was looking up from the sidewalk, but the rest of the time, it was a 6.5"

Part of my interest in certain guns is driven by cinema.

Hey, If its in the movie for a few moments its good enough for me!

For what it's worth IMFDB claims both were used.

James Bond uses the 8-3/8" S&W 29 in "Live and Let Die," which stars Roger Moore and Jane Seymour.

Fjestad currently values a 29-3 in 98% condition at $525 (with box). With scratches on the barrel, that'd take the condition rating down considerably, so I think 550 might be a little high in most places.

In my region (PacNorWest), where we seem to lead the world in old S&W revolver collectors, however, I see 29s priced all over the map. With a touch of honest finish wear, 550 would be a good price here, but nicks and scratches might be a deal-breaker for me unless the lock-up and lack of other wear was awesome ...

The Dirty Harry gun, of course, was a 29-2.

But if you're in an area where you rarely see clean 29s up for sale, I'd go for it ... They're such neat guns.

You won't see one for $550 around here. Nope. Not even a somewhat rough one.

A little more barrel than I like but considering the price and the condition, I'd say go for it.

I don't think you'll be sorry. 29-2 are far from rare outside of California and I've even seen a few here, though for quite a bit more than $550.

The presentation box would be worth some $$$ if in good shape though.

Dedicate your search & I'm sure you'll find a proper 6.5" 29-2. Inspector Calahan would approve. ;)

Yeah, I'm far more happy with the Shield I just got for below MSRP.

Thanks though, I will keep looking for a proper one and eventually I'll get one one that is Millius and Calahan. :)
