Because I think scoring an M&P Shield 9MM for $380 in a trade (plus transfer) is really good.

Lest this be a brag thread on one item the RIA 1911 for $325, the tikka t3 with the leupold vx1 rings and scope for $525 and my recent Garand acquistion are also up there too.

Honorable mention goes to my use of Amazon credit to fund deals. lol

During the height of the Cinton gun ban scare, I traded a Glock 19 with 3 pre-ban mags, 500 rounds of 9mm and a hundred bucks for *three* clean police trade-in S&W 65-3 .357s with 3" barrels and round butts.

Historical perspective has been kind to that deal.

Traded a Ruger 77 in .338 for a 60's era .222 Rem benchrest rifle at the gunshow. After I sold off the Redfield 3200 scope, I figure I'm into the rifle for almost $100. Sure it's dated and won't win matches, but it will put 50 gr slugs into 3/8" or better at 100 yds. It does win the p-dog matches, though.

*M6 scout 22 hornet/.410 shotgun for $125 (wish I hadn't sold it for $175)
Ruger Mark 1 bull barrel for $150
Interarms SS virginia dragoon .44 magnum for $300
Interarms SS walther ppk for $300
U.S. Arms Co. SAA 357mag. for $255

Oh wow, I've gotten so many good deals over the years, they almost (almost) outweigh the amount I've thrown away learning what not to buy! ;)

My most recent was a 1994 Marlin 1895SS for a little over $300 including the scope. This gun shoots one hole groups at 100 yards with my hunting ammo. Never selling it.

Ain't gonna lie I've had some nice deals come my way but the heaviest in my favor was a used RIA GI straight up for a LNIB DPMS Panther 2 mags and 250rds of ammo. I also have a Colt M4 I'm in for less than $300. Oh and a pair of Glocks that I'd be pushing it at $600 in the both of them. Then there was the .270 I got for a wheelless broken boat trailer. Like I said I've seen a deal or two in my time. :)

Colt SAA 2nd generation in .44 Special. Missing the original grips, but was otherwise in excellent condition. I felt good about it at $600. Shoots great. Doubt I'll ever sell it.

Bought a Rem 788 NIB at a gunshow for $112. Seller tossed in a box of Win. SuperX 180gn Silvertips. (Deal was circa 1983.) Still a pretty good buy. Still have the gun, too.

Have not gotten many great deals lately. One of my best was in the mid-1990's when I picked up a NIB 2.5" Colt Diamondback 22 for $400. They were selling for about $900 then as opposed to the $3000 these days.

I bought 2 guns from a customer. Neither of us knew anything about them.

1st was a .410 shotgun. A no name Italian company that folds in half to stuff in a pack. It's an awkward gun to shoot.

2nd was a .32 top break H&R from pre 1914. I gave them $60 off the bill for both guns. I sold the .32 for $250 on gun broker! I still have the .410. Almost gives me a black eye when I shoot it though.

Hard to say. I picked up a beautiful Turkish Mauser for $250. I also picked up an excellent sporterized German Mauser, also for $250, and a Romanian SKS for $275. In the latter two cases, the reserve price on the auction was not met, but I contacted the sellers afterwards and arranged a deal. The German Mauser originally had a reserve price of $350, so I'd say I definitely got a steal there, particularly since she still shoots 1 MOA with the original military barrel.

There's also my all-matching, bright-bore Mosin Nagant I bought off a private seller at the gun show for $75 a few years ago. It came with all the accessories and 20 rounds of ammunition.

I had a Ruger 44 SuperBlackhawk on order with my LGS. When I went to pick it up I saw an original 44 Flat-Top on commission for about the same price. It appeared to be unfired.

Turns out it was the 1 yr only 7 1/2" Flat-Top that is the Jewel in any Ruger collection. There were only about 700 of these made. I paid less than $300

My best deal was threw various Craigslist swaps first I bought a 55gal fish tank fulls set up on there for $125 kept a few oscars and a gar in it for maybe 8months. Put the same tank+ the fish on CL and simply stated will trade for hunting gear. 4hrs later I had an offer on a BNIB Rem. 1100 20ga with 3 chokes and 10 boxes of ammo and a nice leather sling. I drove 45 minutes to do the swap and walked away with a new set up for the wife though I drew blood with it first on a doe lol. All in all I had maybe 170 invested in the tank set up fish and gas to get there and back I'd say I made out good. Then my wife turned around and sold the gun to her dad for 400 but its still hers he just gave us money to keep it at his house pretty much hes never even fired it.

An old model Pardini SPE .22 target pistol with a hard case, extra mag & sights + tools for 270 euros. It had a problem with the bolt locking catch that required only a few file strokes to fix. I remember a thread like this just a few weeks ago.

While it wasn't a deal at the time, my best is a Dan Wesson PM7-S 1911 for around $560 in 2003. It was a regular "discounted" price, but such a fantastic gun that blew away the Kimbers of the day. Now those Dan Wesson 1911's go for double (or more) brand new. I would have bought three if I knew how good they would be.

It was 1994 and Clinton had just enacted the magazine ban. Traded my Taurus PT99 with two 15 round mags + $100 for a excellent 70 Series Colt Gold Cup in the original box.

The Colt keeps growing in value but I wonder what the Taurus is worth?

Others picked up in the last 6 years:

Colt Woodsman with some light bluing wear $100.

Remington 870 Wingmaster, tight but with some bluing wear $125.

Les Baer Concept VIII 45ACP $900. Gun was filthy but it cleaned up nice. Shoots great and runs like a swiss watch.

Not a steal
Just a great gun at a good price:

I thought I would never get a Remington 31 factory riot in reasonable condition.
But I was wrong.:)

This one from 1934 popped up in the mid-$300's and the only downside is serious flaking of the finish at the comb:

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj603/bushmaster1313/Model31.jpg

Back in my college days I worked part-time for a gunsmith. A customer brought in a Interarms Mark X .22-250 with a 6X Western Field scope, said he'd tried everything to get it to group but was over 3 MOA. Wanted $100. The gunsmith looked at me and said "You've been wanting a varmint rifle - buy it!" I did. Took it home that night and floated the barrel (sporter bbl) and glass bedded the action. Pulled the scope and bases, cleaned and remounted with LocTite. It would shoot 1/2 - 3/4" groups all day with factory ammo, and clover-leaf the right handloads. Took a lot of groundsquirrels with it, learned to shoot well, and had the satisfaction of making it shoot well.

Recent: I picked up a 95% Marline Camp 45 with two original SS Marlin 7-rd magazines at the Nov 2012 Nations Guns Show in Chantilly, VA for $650! Even pre-Newtown hysteria, they usually went for 800 or so. The last 3 on GB went for 1300-1500. Although the price will come down, I doubt to below 1k.

I think my greatest bargain is still upcoming. My company started a awards program for certain items sold and I have accumulated so far $1800 worth of American express gift cards.:D

So what better bargain could be than for free?:neener:

Oh but the choices though....

Could get a bunch of ammo but none available right now anyway.

Could get a M1A or a PTR91

Been wanting a SIG 220 and SIG 226, been wanting a Colt King Cobra, been wanting a Winchester trapper 44mag, maybe a Saiga AK? Maybe a couple Glocks? Oh the possibilities!:p

This all hinges on that I don't walk into a guitar store first though.

I've had a couple good ones but I guess my best would be a friend of mine who really wanted my Bersa Thunder satin nickel .380 in the worst way. I really did not want to selll it, till he came up with an offer I just could not turn down. He gave me $70 and a LNIB 1981 Marlin 336 30/30 that layed under his bed in the original box unused for 25+years. He swears it only had ten rounds through it that he put through it before it went under the bed.,and by the shape it was in I believe it.
I still have the 30/30 not sure if he still has the BT.380.

I traded a well-used .380 AMT Backup, a well-used Taurus PT-100, and $30.00 for a brand new 6" Colt King Cobra back in 1996.

There have been a few.

20 years ago- Shiloh Sharps #3 deluxe sporter .45-70 for $800 bux at an auction, back when the wait was like 2 and a half years and they ran 1500 bux or so.
I also picked up a Sako Safari in .300 WM wearing a Leupold 1.5 x 5 in sako rings with a bunch of reloading supplies at an auction for 850 bux. I eventually sold that for 2500, I turned around and bought more sakos...

In the past 15 years-
Colt match target 2nd series 4"- $400 bux
4" Diamondback .22lr- $400
BAR-22 used $200 bux
B-92 44 mag $200 bux (with brass tacks added by a N. Arapahoe "artist")

Winchester Pre-war carbine 30Gov't06...(350 bux. not drilled) I may go to hell for this one.

On friday I bought a 541-T sporter wearing a 6.5-20 Leupold ($650) and a Win repro model 52 b with a leupold 2-7 ($550) and three extra mags.

I always try to keep gun money on hand for those unexpected deals.

Got a barely used Ruger SP101 .357 for like 150 from my parents neighbor.

Neighbors dad passed away from cancer and he didnt want the guns. Most were black powder and some shotguns but the .357 was pristine and a steal

Years of gun collecting has netted some incredible scores - right time, right place.

The following were good finds in the last 3 years. (Looking back past three years, it's crazy and interesting to see how the value of the dollar and the price of guns has fluctuated so dramatically, due to inflation and the gun crazes of 2009 and 2013).

The best is perhaps when I traded an average Mak90 AK47 with black plastic furniture (probably worth $600) for a LNIB stainless Springfield TRP 1911, worth $1400, at a gun show.

Also purchased a Beretta .380 model 85 Pietro for $50 from a girlfriend because she didn't care for it.

Traded a SW .38 model 64 for a HK USP worth twice as much.

Bought an original Springfield 1903 for $475, in very good condition.

Picked up a LNIB Springfield XDM for $300 from owner that didn't like it.

Home defense Mossberg 500 12 gauge for $160.

Stainless Ruger Security Six 4" for $380.

Home defense Maverick 12 gauge for $115.

DSA FAL in beautiful condition, with 22 magazines. $1200.

Loads of surplus guns at about 1/2 of what they cost today.

Loaded Springfield M1A, match barrel, VLTOR rail, bipod, 5 mags, AND 4000 rounds of .308 for... $2400.

Years of buying ammo at 1/2 of where it's at today.

Not a steal, just a good price:

Ruger No. 1 blued/walnut (only 2 rounds fired) in .458 Lott with a brand new Nikon Monarch African 1-4x24 scope, Hornady dies, 100 Barnes bullets, and 90+ new brass for $900 including transfer and shipping fees.

Now that Ruger has discontinued their .458 Lott No. 1's, I'm especially happy.

I bought two S&W .32 Lemon Squeezers on an online auction for $70 each about 8 months ago. They recently appraised between $250 - $300 each.

I got a decent 1903 Colt for $190 in an auction about 4 months ago.

My best was a NIB CZ-85 for $260 in another auction.

I got a collection of 20 shotguns for an afternoon of working on a van. The highlights of the collection are a 1929 Ithaca Single Barrel Trap 5e, and a 12 gauge midas grade browning superposed. Yea I doubt I'll ever top that.

I'm new at the gun whore game - but I did score a NIB hi-power for $5 bills at an estate auction. Could have snagged a Thompson (1984 model!) for another $5 bills, but I wasn't paying enough attention.

Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS in 30-06 with a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12X on top. Used but in nearly perfect condition from a pawn shop at a gun show in Florida for $750. I traded for it and paid nothing. Whoever owned it took VERY good care of that rifle and I often wonder (while sitting in my stand) what circumstances led that individual to part with it.

She now wears a Zeiss 4.5-14X in stainless to match her true colors.

A couple years ago I helped an elderly couple clean out their garage and house as they were moving into an assisted living community. I'd lived next to them most of my life, and their kids have moved away and didn't come help with the initial cleaning/tossing.

Long story short, I was moving stuff around in the attic and found a box.

I went back home with a nice little 16 gauge over/under. Thanks for helping out.

Most of my guns I overpaid for but a few good deals;

-H&R Model 04 .32S&W for less than 100 bucks, sold it to fund my Kel-Tec P-11, kinda regret getting rid of it.
-Rohm RG-10 .22Short for free, also went to fund the P-11, also regret that since the guy who gave it away died.
-Norinco BWK-92 for less than 600 dollars, it was bubba'd with a Romanian stock and made it necesarry for me to do a 922R conversion on it, too bad, the stock was rather nice.

Recently picked up a S&W M&P 9 for 460 since it was discounted, also picked up a S&W M&P 15-22, paid a little elevated pre-panic price for it, about 600 OTD but I was just happy to get it :)

$1200.00 for a 1878 (closest date can get for SN) JM Marlin Ballard Pacific #5 45-70 in excellent condition and a unaltered excellent condition 1886 (as per Colt letter) Colt SA Frontier Six shooter in .44-40.

Both had been in 65 year old neighbor's family far back as he can remember, think he just got tired of me drooling on them.
