[Rustle in the bushes]

I am building up a rig for all around fun- deer hunting, target shooting, zombie defense. It's an 18" bbl with arms 18 scope mount.

I definitely dont want to go crazy big as I will be shooting out to 300 ish(which is far for me at my current skill level) and usually much less(100 yards).

I was thinking of a zeiss conquest 3-9x40 but perhaps a little less magnification would be alright so I could set it to 2 for close work? TBH I'm a total scope newb so suggestions are welcome!!

I have a 6x40 springfield armory scope on my m1a. i notice that some people have had bad luck with this optic but ive been shooting out to 300 yards with it alot with great success. The same scope is on an FNAR which has great accuracy. recently put a fx-3 6x42 leupold on my hunting rifle. I like the fixed optics for hunting because i wont be adjusting the magnification when i see a buck out there. beyond 300 yards i would probably get an adjustable scope with higher magnification, but i never shoot past 300.

A 1-4x might serve you very well for the roles you mentioned. 2-7x should also work well.
