Cannelure placement problem

(Reference from Hornady 7th ed. reloading manual)
Col calls for: max 2.810 min 2.780

Finally got some time to reload some 308's using hornady fmjft w/c bullets(#3037). Cases(once fired rem brass) trimmed to 2.005, but cannelure doesn't line up to min or max col. I seated bullet to 2.733 to achieve correct bullet placement(middle of cannelure). I should be good right? (Using varget 38.2gr 2400 fps)

Oh yeah, this is for an M1A.

Yes, good to go.

You are way down the chart on powder charge anyway.

I have all kinds of problems with hornady cannelures.

Maybe RC can confirm this, but I've read some chatter that some of them aren't really cannelures, but "bonding rings"

In any event, my cannelure using the 180gr SST in my .308 is so far from the case mouth it looks goofy. But, its a custom length for my bolt gun, and they shoot real darn good that way.

Max OAL, btw in .308 ( or many rifle rounds for that matter) is simply to accommodate magazines...... Its that pressurey MIN one you gotta worry about. Kudos to you for askin :D
