What percentage of NICS delayed turn into denials? They told me 8 days wait. Did not give SS# Ohio.

In 2011 that number would be 1.14%

Pretty much everything you want to know about the NICS here: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/reports/2011-operations-report/operations-report-2011

1) Next time put your SSN on the form.

2) Ohio FFL's call NICS directly. The wait should be 3 business days for a delay. If the shop is telling you 8 days that's their policy, not federal law.

Also look into the Voluntary Appeal File. It's a process, but it was fairly quick for me and I think it has helped.

Submitting a VAF application and receiving a UPIN delivers at least as much as it promises. That said, my recent experience buying a long gun in a POC state may require talking the local into passing along the UPIN. The transfer is going to hit the NICS sooner or later, may as well have proper information in front of the examiner when it does, despite remarks like "we don't use those here".
