I want to make some decent practice bullets that aren't full power for my new mossberg 100. Berry's has some 30-30 bullets for $42/250. Do you think these over the red dot load would make for a good plinking bullet?

They will certainly shoot but how well they may work with your rifle is something that you just need to try. The good thing is its not an expensive undertaking. Ed Harris, a well respected writer on hand loading, liked Red Dot for loading inexpensive practice ammo in center fire rifles. Below is a text file written by Ed in 1994 regarding use of Red Dot in rifle calibers.

Over Red Dot, you're talking somewhere between "play" and "plinking". For that you might consider some of those gas-checked plastic NATO bullets. My son shoots those in several guns over Trail Boss. Those are good out to about 50-75 yards. At one time those were $40/1000.
