A friend of mine is trying to talk me out of my extra AR. It is a CMMG Quebec-A .22. I bought two of them, one for me and one for my wife. She never "took" to the rifle, so it has less than 500 rounds downrange. My buddy has offered me a Springfield XD (full size) 9mm with Stainless slide. It comes with 4 magazines, and all other factory stuff (box, books,lock,etc.). He also offered me a FM Hi-Power. This is a low serial number that he has had for years. I have about all of the handguns I will ever need, but the rifle is a safe queen that I had planned on using when I wore mine out..lol. Just looking for some friendly THR input and some thoughts about what you guys would do. Thanks.

For me, it is a no-brainer. I'd trade the rifle that sits unused. But, since you did say the rifle was for your wife, ask her what she would want to do with it. She might like to trade it herself.

If it is more yours than hers, and your buddy really wants it, trade for a pistol of your choice, then trade that in for something you want more. Just be up front with your buddy about it if that's the road you take.

Promising rifles to the better half, and not consulting them about disposing of those rifles- can be bad ju-ju.

Talk to her first, then trade that silly 22 ar for a the XD.

Or, do neither, and get a new upper for your safe queen, and turn it into a useful rifle. Get it in something your wife would actually shoot- and it may be a better investment.

Id make that trade for just the Hi Power, if hes throwing in the XD as well then thats a great bonus.

If it was me ,Id make that trade. Id keep the hi power and sell the XD then put the money I made off selling the XD towards C&S parts for the hi power that and some spegel grips.

He was right. Today, not that I'm rich, but at the time I retired 7 years ago I owed nothing to anyone - and still don't.

OTOH: I do indeed regret every occasion when I traded or sold a firearm or any real estate.

Yup, you are 100% right. OTOH those taxes are piddling compared to the mortgages until they were paid for. And now that I'm old, I can still raise a buck or 10,000 in about 15 minutes at any bank...

or sell a piece off if need be.

Gun Advice..... Trade for the Hi-Power

Man Advice ...... Let your wife make the decision. I sold an AK that I had built to the Mrs.'s specifications and she was going to use it as her deer rifle. Well she made a few range trips with it but never hunted with it and frankly I just figured she had lost interest in it. So I sold it without really taking her opinion into consideration. HUGE MISTAKE! Turns out she really loved the stupid gun and was crushed when she realized it was gone. If your wife gives you the go ahead then sure. If not it sits. Trust me on this one :)

I will get some photos up in a bit. The wife loved the trade, she thought the Hi-Power was a "cute" gun. She said it looks a lot like the 1911, but prettier...lol. The Springfield was his carry gun, so it has some wear, not bad though. The Hi-Power has a couple of scratches, but I am really picky.i cannot wait to get them both out and see how they do. Thanks everyone.

To be fair the .22 had a Comp M3 Aimpoint (refurbished) that I paid $275 for, a Vickers Blue Force Sling and a Midwest drop in quad rail on it So it wasn't just the rifle.

Wait, there's a real M3 on top of the CMMG he wants to trade for (reconditioned or not)?

If so, this new critical info on the sight and rail makes a difference since this doubles the value in the trade. You have ~$1,000 - $750 to trade.

Even if you're getting both pistols (BTW, you do mean the Argentine FM Hi-Power?) then the trade isn't that good considering you could take the M3 off and sell it and then sell the CMMG for more than the used value of the two pistols and your wife could buy a .22lr rifle she actually liked as well as a .22lr pistol.
