My 300 blackout refuses to feed with remington subsonic 220 grain ammo. it works just fine with the pnw 147 grain fmj but not the remington. it seems to be shortstroking ie. coming back far enough to eject but not strip the next round. also when locking back on an empty mag it seems to catch on the carrier rather than the bolt...

short of doing any major surgery to my gas system, any suggestions? i have no suppressor so should i just stay away from subsonic?

16 inch barrel by the way

a can will increase the back pressure with the subs and could possibly help your short stroking issue. who made the barrel?

the mag catch issue sounds like just a magazine problem.....

Sounds to me like it's definitely short stroking. What weight buffer do you have in it? Have you cleaned/lubed since you started having issues?

You might have to open the gas port hole a bit more.

FYI, my CMMG 300 does not cycle subs at all, and my PSA 300 will cycle subs occasionally.

It's a model 1 sales upper with an er shaw barrel. Im not sure what weight buffer is in it... Is there a way to check that? I have a reloading scale. It can't be a mag issue if the super sonic ones work. Can it?

If you do not want to fool with the gas block/gas port, perhaps, maybe, more of a slower powder might work. It would maintain the pressure a bit longer.

If you do not reload, you will need to play with the gas port/block. If you want to shoot a wide range of weights a large gas port and an adjustable gas block is the best way to go.

I do reload but not for the 300 yet

Model 1 sells a reduced power spring kit for sub use only.

300 Fireball is essentially the same as 300 BLK. As is .300-.221 and 300 Whisper.

I have a M1S 16" upper. It functions fine w/ everything. It is the 300 Whisper though, stamped 300-221 I've had before the .300 AAC came out. I would try the parts from them that Well Now suggested. My buffer is the A2 rifle size and regular spring in a DoubleStar lower.

Probably you have the wrong gas port size. Also make sure you have a C buffer. There is no reason to use a reduced power spring, and it is bad to anyway because it won't strip rounds from a fully loaded magazine as well.
